A Preview Of Electric Cars Launching This Festive Season

A Preview of Electric Cars Launching This Festive Season

Electric vehicles (EVs) are steadily gaining traction in India, with more options available and an increasing number of buyers choosing them for their fast acceleration, potential cost savings, and environmental benefits. While the EV charging infrastructure in India is still evolving, this hasn't stopped the momentum of EV adoption. After the successful launch of the Tata Curvv EV earlier this year, the festive season promises to bring more excitement with several new electric vehicles set to debut. Let’s take a look at the top four EVs you can expect to see on the roads this festive season.

Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV

Launch Date: September 5, 2024

Expected Price: ₹3.5 crore (ex-showroom)

Mercedes-Benz is all set to introduce its first all-electric Maybach in India, the EQS 680 SUV. This luxury EV stands out with its bold black panel grille adorned with chrome strips and a striking two-tone paint job that differentiates it from the standard EQS SUV available globally. The interior is equally impressive, featuring a triple-screen setup and dual 11.6-inch displays for rear passengers, offering a premium in-car experience.

Internationally, the EQS 680 is equipped with dual electric motors that generate a powerful 658 PS and 950 Nm of torque, offering a claimed range of up to 600 km. While the specifications for the India-spec model are yet to be confirmed, this high-end EV is sure to make waves in the luxury segment.

MG Windsor EV

Launch Date: September 11, 2024

Expected Price: ₹20 lakh (ex-showroom)

MG Motor is expanding its electric vehicle lineup in India with the upcoming Windsor EV. This will be the automaker’s third all-electric offering in the country. The Windsor EV has already created a buzz with teasers revealing its sleek LED headlights with DRLs, 18-inch alloy wheels, a fixed panoramic glass roof, and a large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Under the hood, it is expected to house a 50.6 kWh battery pack paired with a single electric motor producing 136 PS and 200 Nm. The Windsor EV’s range is expected to be slightly modified for the Indian market from its international version, which boasts a 460 km range, subject to ARAI certification.

Kia EV9

Launch Date: October 3, 2024

Expected Price: ₹80 lakh (ex-showroom)

Kia is gearing up to launch its flagship all-electric SUV, the EV9, in India this October. Positioned above the EV6, the EV9 features a bold, boxy design with a strong road presence. Inside, it comes loaded with premium features like a dual 12.3-inch screen setup (one for the driver’s display and the other for infotainment), a 14-speaker Meridian sound system, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Globally, the EV9 is available with two battery pack options: a 76.1 kWh and a 99.8 kWh, offering a range of up to 541 km. It will be offered in both rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations, making it a versatile choice for Indian buyers seeking an electric SUV.

Facelifted BYD e6

Launch Date: To Be Announced

Expected Price: To Be Confirmed

BYD (Build Your Dreams) is ready to refresh its popular all-electric MPV, the e6, with a facelift. The updated e6 has already been unveiled globally and features a refreshed exterior design, complete with new LED lighting and dual-tone 17-inch alloy wheels. Inside, it boasts modern features such as a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless phone charging, ventilated front seats, and a panoramic glass roof.

The international version of the facelifted BYD e6 offers two battery pack options: a 55.4 kWh battery with a 163 PS motor and a larger 71.8 kWh battery with a 204 PS motor. The latter version delivers a claimed range of 530 km and includes vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities, allowing the car to power external devices.

With the festive season approaching, these electric vehicles are set to provide Indian consumers with a range of exciting new options, from luxury SUVs to practical MPVs. Whether you’re drawn to the opulence of the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 or the versatility of the facelifted BYD e6, there’s something for everyone in the electric vehicle segment this year.
