2027 Hyundai Creta will be set to present a brand new hybrid powertrain.

Hyundai anticipates a meaningful new period for its Creta series with a 2027 model. The popular midsize SUV will get a petrol-hybrid option with diesel, turbo-petrol, and petrol engines. It will be for approximately the first time. That move positions Hyundai so it can better compete inside the quickly evolving hybrid SUV market in India.

Hyundai is actually preparing itself for the transition toward the future in the electrification of its bestselling SUV. The hybrid powertrain will be introduced by the third-generation Hyundai Creta car (codenamed SX3).

For the year 2027, the launch that is slated will improve on its diverse engine options now. Hyundai expects this action will strengthen its place within the midsize SUV market, and align with India’s changing auto scene as customer tastes change, plus environmental rules shape the scene.

New Hybrid Option Joins Petrol and Diesel Range

As of now, the Creta comes with three engine options available: a petrol engine of 1.5 litres with 115 horsepower, a turbo-petrol engine of 1.5 liters producing 160 horsepower, and a diesel engine of 1.5 litres generating 116 horsepower.

The iteration for the year 2027 will maintain these options with the addition of another one—a naturally aspirated petrol-hybrid engine of 1.5 liters, most likely the unit that will be featured in the hybrid version of Kia Seltos.

This will assist Hyundai in meeting stricter CAFE Phase III regulations while providing these customers something more attractive than a fully electric vehicle.

Surrounding Competitive Hybrid SUVs

When it does come out, the hybrid Creta is bound to face fierce competition from multiple rivals, starting off with Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, followed by Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, to Kia Seltos Hybrid.

The newly unveiled Renault Duster Hybrid and its counterpart, Nissan, will compete for supremacy in the SUV segment dominated by hybrids.

Creta Electric Facelift in the Pipeline

Hyundai plans to undertake a mid-cycle facelift for the Creta Electric along with the hybrid launch. While it will not be an entirely new model, the refreshed EV will gain new styling cues, some features, and perhaps some increased range, either because of better battery management software or due to a higher capacity battery pack.

Regime Change on Hyundai's Perspective toward Hybrids

Hyundai's perspective toward hybrids indicates a wider strategy of bridging combustion engines and full EVs. Considering charging infrastructure is still catching up across India, hybrids act as a pragmatic compromise for cutting down emissions, without a guarantee on distance.

Hyundai now aims to capture volume-win-based nationals and exports with three nodes for the hybrid SUVs across price points: one, starting somewhere between the Alcazar and Tucson; and another is the Creta.
