The 2026 Renault Duster's 1.3-litre TCe 160 turbo petrol engine now carries ARAI-certified mileage figures of 18.45 km/l for the DCT variant and 17.75 km/l for the manual.
Despite being the most powerful engine in its segment, the Duster manages to deliver fuel efficiency that rivals far more modest powertrains.
When the 2026 Renault Duster launched in India, it already had plenty going for it. Strong road manners, a well-appointed cabin, sharp looks, and a punchy engine had all been well received. The one thing buyers were still waiting on was official, government-certified fuel efficiency data. That wait is now over.
Renault India has released ARAI-certified mileage figures for the Duster's 1.3-litre TCe 160 turbo petrol engine, and they are genuinely impressive for a motor of this calibre. The DCT automatic variant returns 18.45 km/l, while the 6-speed manual comes in at 17.75 km/l.
At a time when many manufacturers prefer to quote figures obtained under more favourable controlled conditions, these are proper ARAI numbers, which makes them all the more meaningful.
A Segment-Leading Engine That Does Not Compromise on Efficiency
The 1.3-litre TCe 160 engine is no ordinary unit. It produces 163 PS of peak power and 280 Nm of peak torque, figures that represent the highest output in this segment from a 1.3-litre engine. That level of performance usually comes at a cost to efficiency, which makes the mileage figures here all the more noteworthy.
The engineering behind this balance is not accidental. Dr. V. Vikraman, Chief of Renault Engineering for the Renault Group in India, noted that the engine incorporates low-friction coatings and high-pressure fuel injection to optimise combustion. When paired with Renault's latest DCT, which offers fast and seamless gear changes, the result is a powertrain that feels responsive.
Pricing and What It Means for Buyers
The 2026 Renault Duster is priced between Rs 10.29 lakh and Rs 18.09 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it competitively within the mid-size SUV space. With the mileage figures now in the public domain, buyers weighing up the Duster against its rivals have a clearer, fuller picture to work with.
For anyone who has been sitting on the fence, the combination of class-leading performance and better-than-expected efficiency is a difficult argument to ignore. The Duster has returned, and it has returned with something to say.
