Off-road credibility still sells the second-generation Thar, listed from about Rs 10.32 lakh to Rs 17.80 lakh (ex-showroom).
A 2.0-litre petrol, 1.5-litre diesel and 2.2-litre diesel are offered, with 4x4 or 4x2. A recent update adds a tweaked grille, two-tone bumpers, a 10.25-inch HD screen, a darker dash and rear AC vents.
Daily features are better than the old Thar; comfort and practicality still trail a conventional SUV. Road presence is the other reason people buy it.
