Tata Sierra Ice Versions Set For Launch After Ev In Late 2025

Tata Sierra ICE Versions Set for Launch After EV in Late 2025

After the much-anticipated unveiling of the Tata Sierra EV concept at the 2023 Auto Expo, Tata Motors has revealed plans to launch the internal combustion engine (ICE) versions of the Sierra shortly after the EV debut.

Scheduled for release in the second half of 2025, the Sierra ICE will follow in the footsteps of the brand’s EV-first strategy, which was first seen with the launch of the Curvv electric vehicle lineup earlier this year.

Tata’s Bold EV-First Strategy

Tata Motors has made it clear that its future lineup will prioritize electric vehicles, with the Sierra EV leading the charge. The ICE versions of the SUV will be an extension of the brand’s growing portfolio of both electric and conventional vehicles.

Tata's approach is in line with its broader vision to become a leader in both the electric and traditional vehicle segments, offering customers a range of options suited to different driving preferences.

Powertrain Options for the Sierra ICE

As for the ICE-powered versions of the Tata Sierra, details remain largely speculative, but there are strong indications about the likely engine options. The 2.0-litre diesel engine, which has already seen service in Tata’s popular Harrier and Safari SUVs, is expected to make its way into the Sierra ICE. This proven powertrain will likely be paired with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system for better off-road capability, a feature that would appeal to adventure enthusiasts and those looking for added stability and performance on varied terrains.

Additionally, Tata Motors is also expected to introduce a 1.5-litre turbocharged T-GDi petrol engine, marking a departure from the brand's reliance on diesel engines. This turbo-petrol motor will provide customers with a more dynamic and efficient alternative, especially for those who prefer a petrol engine's responsiveness and performance.

The introduction of AWD configurations across both engine variants will offer a significant boost to the Sierra’s appeal as a versatile and rugged SUV.

Sierra EV and ICE Versions to Complement Each Other

The ICE variants of the Sierra will complement the upcoming Sierra EV, allowing Tata to offer customers a broader choice of powertrains. While Tata Motors has remained tight-lipped about the exact specifications and features of the Sierra EV, the electric SUV is expected to incorporate the brand’s latest electric vehicle technology, offering long-range capabilities, fast-charging features, and cutting-edge tech.

The production-spec Sierra, as revealed through patent images last year, will closely resemble the concept version, maintaining the SUV’s bold and rugged styling. Although technical details remain scarce, the expectation is that the Sierra ICE will retain the same design language as the EV, ensuring consistency across the range.

Conclusion

With the upcoming launch of the Sierra EV followed by the ICE variants in 2025, Tata Motors is reinforcing its commitment to offering diverse and technologically advanced vehicles. Whether you're drawn to the sustainability and innovation of electric power or the performance and reliability of traditional combustion engines, the Tata Sierra promises to offer something for every type of driver. Stay tuned for more updates as Tata Motors gears up for the arrival of these exciting models.
