If you are in the market for an electric SUV from Tata, two popular options are the Tata Nexon EV and the Tata Punch EV. Both have long-range variants with a claimed range of over 400 km. The Nexon EV offers a higher range due to its larger battery pack. Let's compare their real-world performance.

The Nexon EV LR features a more powerful electric motor, offering 21 PS more power and 25 Nm higher torque than the Punch EV.

In the 0-100 kmph sprint, the Tata Nexon LR was quicker than the Tata Punch EV LR by 0.3 seconds. However, the Punch EV outperformed the Nexon EV in the 20-80 kmph kickdown test by 0.13 seconds. The Punch EV also gave a close fight in the quarter-mile race, though the Nexon finished with a slightly higher speed.

The Nexon EV covered almost 4 metres less distance than the Punch EV when braking from 100 kmph to 0 kmph. This difference decreased to 2 metres when braking from 80 kmph to 0 kmph. The Nexon EV LR features 215/60 tyres with 16-inch alloy wheels, while the Punch EV has 190-section tyres with the same 16-inch alloy wheels.

Final Takeaway:

Despite having a less powerful motor, the Tata Punch EV LR performed closely to the Nexon EV in acceleration tests. In braking tests, the Punch EV was tested under wet conditions, which might have affected its performance.

  • Tata Nexon EV LR: Rs 16.99 lakh to Rs 19.49 lakh

  • Tata Punch EV LR: Rs 12.99 lakh to Rs 15.49 lakh

The Tata Nexon EV's long-range variant starts at Rs 16.99 lakh, which is Rs 1.5 lakh more than the top-spec long-range variant of the Punch EV. The Nexon EV competes with the Mahindra XUV400 EV, while the Punch EV rivals the Citroen eC3.
