Skoda Kylaq Likely to Get New Petrol-CNG Variant Soon

Skoda Auto India is mulling a fresh lower-end variant of the Kylaq sub-compact SUV, hinting at a petrol-CNG bi-fuel powertrain. The move, likely taking eight to nine months, aims to broaden options and attract price-sensitive buyers in a tough market.

Skoda Auto India is exploring a new, more affordable version of the Kylaq sub-compact SUV. This addition would slot in at the lower end of the lineup, giving buyers extra choice in a busy market segment.

Kylaq’s Growing Role

The Kylaq has become central to Skoda’s strategy in India, joining siblings like the Kushaq, Slavia, and Kodiaq. Demand has been strong, thanks to its positioning as a premium feel at a reasonable price. In a segment crowded with rivals, Skoda wants to keep the Kylaq fresh and appealing.

New Entry at Lower End

Ashish Gupta, Brand Director of Skoda Auto India, mentioned that there is room for a variant positioned below existing trims. By adding a lower-range option, the company aims to reach buyers seeking value without missing out on the Kylaq’s attributes. The plan is to widen the line-up and meet varied budgets.

Timeline for Launch

According to Gupta, bringing a new variant to market would take about eight to nine months. If the decision is finalized soon, we can expect this model to arrive later in 2025 or by early 2026. This timeline gives Skoda some breathing room to fine-tune features and pricing.

Possible Petrol-CNG Option

One standout idea is a petrol-CNG bi-fuel powertrain. In this segment, CNG remains popular among buyers looking for low running costs. Skoda is considering this setup to make the Kylaq even more attractive.

However, specifics on engine tuning or official confirmation have not been shared yet.

Competitive Context

The Kylaq competes with models like Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, and Mahindra XUV 3XO. Each offers petrol, diesel, or even CNG choices. By adding a petrol-CNG option and a budget-friendly trim, Skoda aims to stand out and draw buyers who prioritize fuel savings.

What This Means for Buyers

For buyers, a lower-end Kylaq could mean an entry price closer to rival models, with Skoda’s build quality and features. A petrol-CNG variant would further reduce running costs, especially for daily commuters. This move may nudge more customers toward the brand, balancing premium feel and affordability.

The bottom line is that Skoda Auto India’s plan to add a lower-priced Kylaq variant, possibly with a petrol-CNG bi-fuel setup, reflects its push to capture more ground in a crowded SUV market. With an 8–9 month development window, expect updates by late 2025 or early 2026. This strategy could widen choices for budget-conscious buyers without compromising the Kylaq’s appeal.
