New Lexus ES Debuts with Hybrid and EV Power

At the 2025 Shanghai Motor Show, Lexus has unveiled the all-new ES luxury sedan with a complete design overhaul, introducing it with both hybrid and all-electric variants. With enhanced dimensions, futuristic tech, and up to 685 km range, the new Lexus ES sets a fresh benchmark for luxury and efficiency in its segment.

Lexus is yet another segment in which Toyota came out with its new-generation ES sedan on Tuesday, at the 2025 Shanghai Motor Show. The car veers away considerably from the original styling, with its streamlined silhouette, bright(est) design features, and first-ever hybrid and all-electric powertrain options.

Novel Appearances for the ES

It is really no longer just the spindle grille, once a main trait in Lexus designs, now replaced with a sleek, closed-off grille for the EV variant and a minimal air intake for hybrid models. The design looks to borrow from both Toyota's BZ3 and the Lexus LF-ZC concept.

Other features would include low-slung LED headlights, Nike-inspired DRLs, motorised flush door handles, and 21-inch alloy wheels.

At the rear are connected LED tail lamps and fine modeling that brings in a modern appeal. The overall dimensions now stand at 5,140 mm and this latest ES has grown significantly larger, translating to a more spacious and luxurious cabin, especially rear, where the majority of the owners are expected to be chauffeured.

Interior Upgrades and Features

The interior of the new Lexus ES is equally impressive. It features a dual-tone black and brown theme, a great 14-inch free-standing touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and high-end features such as a Mark Levinson sound system, panoramic electrochromic sunroof, ottoman rear seats, clearly giving emphasis to first-class experience.

Powertrain Options: Hybrid and Electric

There are two hybrid variants in the offer by Lexus: the 300h, either having 2.0L (197 bhp) or a 2.5L (201 bhp) engines, and then we have the 350h, with more thrust at a 2.5L engine with a whooping 247 bhp. The engines come fitted with an eCVT and optional AWD.

The EV variants are the 350e or 224 bhp front wheel drive with 685 km range, and the 550e which features all wheel drive 343 bhp with a coverage of 610 km range. While battery size is yet to be confirmed, both are likely to use the 77 kWh unit from the Lexus RZ. In terms of acceleration, the 350e goes from 0-100 km/h in 8.9 seconds, whereas the more powerful 550e does this in just 5.9 seconds.

The combination of luxury, innovation, and sustainability makes the new Lexus ES destined to redefine executive mobility in the year 2025 and beyond.
