Audi has introduced one more exciting chapter in the story of electric mobility with its E5 Sportback first production model under its China-specific EV sub-brand, AUDI. Launched during a special event in Shanghai, the E5 Sportback is underpinned by a new architecture developed jointly by SAIC, representing a reframing of Audi's global EV strategy.
Powertrains and Performance
Four different variants will be available for the E5 Sportback, with output numbers starting at 300 hp and extending to a whopping 787 hp. The E5 Sportback is an entry-level variant that employs a rear-mounted motor, while all-wheel drive is the reserve for the topmost variant carrying the Quattro badge, achieving a blistering 0 to 100 kmph in just 3.4 seconds.
Maximum range is claimed as 770 km (CLTC cycle), enabled by a 100 kWh battery pack. Thanks to 800V ultra-fast charging, range anxiety is alleviated by providing 370km in just 10 minutes on the road.
Design and Dimensions
The E5 Sportback stays true to the concept offered earlier and therefore possesses the sleek minimalist lines. It replaces the symbolic four-ring logo with an 'AUDI'-lettermark highlighting this model's more futuristic identity. Both ends wrapped in a black functional loop housing Matrix LEDs, radars, and air curtains measure in at 4,881mm long by 1,959mm wide and stands tall at 1,478mm-from which is derived an athletic and poised stature.
A High-Tech Interior
Coming inside, a 27-inch 4K display greets one across the whole dashboard. Physically, all buttons have been eliminated; everything is upon this immersive touchscreen running Audi OS. It allows customizable layouts to prioritize the relevant data, and intuitive gesture-based controls beautify the usage experience.
Next-Gen Safety and Autonomy
The E5 Sportback also showcases one's commitment to autonomous driving. It comes packed with Audi 360 Assisted Driving system, roof-mounted LiDAR, three long-range radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and a suite of cameras. These elements are enabling a high degree of autonomy from one environment to another - urban and freeway.
Audi has put its leap forward into the luxury EV market with all of these next-generation battery technologies, futuristic interiors, and robust safety systems to make the E5 Sportback a pioneer in the rapidly growing Chinese market.
