Mahindra XUV700 Gets a Big Update: AX3 Out, 3-Row Seating Only

Mahindra has just made some major changes to its popular XUV700, and if you’re thinking about getting one, you’ll want to hear this. The AX3 variant is no longer available; it’s been discontinued. Plus, all 5-seater versions are gone too.

Mahindra XUV700

Mahindra has just made some major changes to its popular XUV700, and if you’re thinking about getting one, you’ll want to hear this. The AX3 variant is no longer available; it’s been discontinued. Plus, all 5-seater versions are gone too. So, what’s left? The XUV700 is now all about space, offering only 3-row seating configurations, perfect for big families or anyone who needs extra seats.

What’s Changed in the Lineup?

Let’s break it down. The AX3, which used to be the entry-level option in the AX range, has been axed. If you were eyeing a 5-seater XUV700, those are history too. Now, the lineup starts with the AX5 Select variant, which comes with seven seats as standard. This makes the XUV700 a go-to choice for those who need a spacious ride.

If you’re after something a bit fancier, the higher-end AX7 and AX7 L trims still give you options. You can choose between a 6-seater setup with comfy captain’s chairs in the middle row or stick with the 7-seater for maximum capacity. These changes mean the XUV700 is now fully focused on being a family-friendly SUV with plenty of room.

How Much Does It Cost?

With these updates, the XUV700’s price range has shifted. It now starts at Rs 14.49 lakh and goes up to Rs 25.74 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India). That’s a wide range, so whether you’re looking for a budget-friendly option or a fully loaded model, there’s something for you.

Here’s a quick look at the price range:

Variant RangePrice (Ex-Showroom, Pan-India)
Starting (AX5 Select)Rs 14.49 lakh
Top-End (AX7 L)Rs 25.74 lakh

What Stays the Same?

Good news: apart from the variant and seating changes, the XUV700 is still the same awesome SUV. It’s got that bold, rugged look with LED headlights, C-shaped daytime running lights, and a chunky grille. The black claddings and 18-inch alloy wheels give it a tough, ready-for-anything vibe.

Inside, you’re treated to a premium cabin with a dual-tone black and ivory theme (or an all-black Ebony Edition in higher trims). The dashboard sports dual 10.25-inch screens for infotainment and controls, plus features like a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone AC, and a 12-speaker Sony sound system.

Safety is a big deal here, too. The XUV700 comes with up to seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, an electronic parking brake, and Level-2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) to keep you safe on the road.

Engine Options: Power and Performance

Under the hood, the XUV700 keeps its powerful engine lineup. You’ve got two choices:

Engine TypePowerTorqueTransmission OptionsDrivetrain Options
2.0-litre Turbo-Petrol200 PS380 Nm6-speed MT/ATFront-Wheel-Drive
2.2-litre DieselUp to 185 PSUp to 450 Nm6-speed MT/ATFWD/All-Wheel-Drive

Both engines are available with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission, and the diesel option even offers all-wheel drive for those who love a bit of off-road adventure. Whether you’re cruising in the city or hitting the highway, these engines deliver a smooth and powerful ride.

Who’s the Competition?

The XUV700 isn’t alone in the 3-row SUV market. It goes head-to-head with some strong rivals like the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, and MG Hector Plus. Each of these SUVs has its strengths, but the XUV700 stands out with its bold design, feature-packed cabin, and versatile engine options.

Overall, by focusing on 3-row seating, Mahindra seems to be doubling down on the XUV700’s appeal as a family SUV. The discontinuation of the AX3 and 5-seater variants might streamline the lineup, making it easier for buyers to choose a model that fits their needs. If you’re in the market for a spacious, tech-loaded SUV, the XUV700 is still a top contender, especially with its updated focus on a larger seating configuration.
