Maharashtra to extend HSRP deadlines from 31st March to June 30, 2025

The HSRP was made compulsory for vehicles sold before April 2019, the transport department announced the first deadline as March 31, which was later extended to April 30 and now has been extended for the third time to June 30, 2025. In an official letter, the transport department has resolved to extend the deadline for the third time.

The transport department has now decided to extend the deadline for a third time as there has been a reduced turnover of vehicles for the fitting of HSRP than anticipated.

If you wish to apply for an HSRP, the following is an outline of how to proceed to make an appointment for your vehicle.

How to book an HSRP?

To make an appointment for an HSRP, Maharashtra residents must apply online. The transport department has divided the RTOs across the state into three zones. You can go to this link and choose the appropriate zone from where your vehicle has been registered.

Once you have chosen the proper RTO, please provide the details which are required and you can make an appointment at the nearest vendor at a time and date of your preference.

Price included for getting an HSRP

In a standard operating procedure (SOP), which was published early in March, the government announced the following price for the fitment of an HSRP. Also, you can have the HSRP home-delivered at an extra price of Rs 125 for two-wheelers and Rs 250 for automobiles.

Vehicle TypePrice (Exclusive of GST)
2-Wheelers and TractorsRs 450
Three WheelersRs 500
LMV/Commercial CarsRs 745

What is an HSRP?

High-Security Registration Number Plates, or simply HSRP, are non-tamperable number plates that have been made compulsory by the Government of India. These number plates are affixed on the vehicle by special locks that cannot be reused if the number plate is taken off. These number plates are stamped with a code so that every HSRP is distinct from the rest. These plates, according to the government, were implemented to minimize the crimes in vehicles.

Conclusion

Maharashtra's move to advance the deadline of HSRP to June 30, 2025, gives car owners more time to meet the directive. With the easy online booking facility and transparency in pricing details, citizens can easily book an appointment for fitting HSRP. Since such high-security plates prevent crimes relating to vehicles and make tracking more effective, all vehicle owners are recommended to fit them before the new deadline so that they will not have to pay any fines.
