Kia Ev6 Gt Facelift 650hp Beast With Updates From Hyundai Ioniq 5 N

Kia EV6 GT Facelift: 650hp Beast with Updates from Hyundai Ioniq 5 N

The Kia EV6 GT, already a favorite among performance EV enthusiasts, is set to receive a significant update, borrowing heavily from its sibling, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. The updated EV6 GT will pack a punch with a new 650hp powertrain, cosmetic enhancements, and technological upgrades designed to elevate its driving experience. This news highlights Kia’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of EV performance.

Performance: A Powerhouse on Wheels

At the heart of the updated Kia EV6 GT is a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup closely related to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. This powertrain delivers an impressive 610hp and 740Nm in its standard mode, but the stakes are raised further when the GT drive mode is activated. In this mode, the EV6 GT unleashes a staggering 650hp and 770Nm of torque. For comparison, the outgoing EV6 GT produces 584hp, while the Ioniq 5 N boasts a 3.4-second sprint from 0 to 100kph. Though Kia hasn’t yet disclosed specific performance figures, yet it’s expected to improve upon the outgoing EV6 GT’s already blistering 3.5-second acceleration time.

Simulated Automatic Gearbox: A Touch of ICE Nostalgia

One of the standout features of the updated EV6 GT is the inclusion of a simulated automatic gearbox, similar to the setup found in the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and the recently revealed Kia EV9 GT. This system is designed to mimic the feel of a combustion-engine performance car by simulating gear shifts, limiting torque, and altering the soundscape to resemble engine revs. Drivers can operate the system in automatic mode or take control via paddle shifters mounted behind the steering wheel. For those who prefer a more traditional EV driving experience, the system can also be disabled entirely.

Improved Battery and Range

Kia has equipped the updated EV6 GT with a larger 84kWh battery, a significant upgrade from the outgoing model’s 77kWh pack. This enhancement is expected to boost the car’s range slightly beyond the current model’s official 423km rating. While precise range figures haven’t been revealed, the larger battery underscores Kia’s focus on balancing performance with practicality.

Exterior and Interior Updates

The updated EV6 GT is expected to feature styling tweaks inspired by Kia’s latest EV lineup, including the EV3, EV5, and EV9. While official images of the facelifted EV6 GT have not been released, the cosmetic changes will likely include sharper lines, updated lighting elements, and a more aggressive stance to match its enhanced performance credentials.

Inside, the EV6 GT will benefit from a refreshed cabin, featuring a new three-spoke steering wheel and updates to the overall design for a more modern and driver-focused aesthetic. These changes are expected to bring the EV6 GT in line with Kia’s latest interior design language, emphasizing luxury and technology.

India Launch: What to Expect

While Kia currently sells the pre-facelift EV6 in GT Line guise in India, the GT performance variant is unlikely to make its way to the Indian market, at least in the near future. The facelifted EV6, however, is expected to debut in India next year, bringing some of the design and technological updates of the global model to Indian shores.

Kia EV6 GT: The Bigger Picture

The Kia EV6 GT’s updates reflect a broader trend in the EV industry, the blending of high performance with cutting-edge technology and practicality. With the new powertrain, simulated automatic gearbox, and larger battery, the EV6 GT is poised to set a new benchmark for performance EVs.

This facelift also underscores the synergy between Hyundai and Kia as they continue to share platforms and technologies to push the boundaries of EV innovation. The Ioniq 5 N and EV6 GT exemplify this partnership, offering a glimpse into the future of high-performance electric mobility.

Conclusion

The updated Kia EV6 GT is shaping up to be a game-changer in the performance EV segment. With its 650hp powertrain, simulated gearbox, and refined aesthetics, it promises to deliver an exhilarating driving experience that bridges the gap between traditional performance cars and cutting-edge EVs.

While India may not see the GT variant anytime soon, the facelifted EV6’s arrival next year will still bring much of the innovation and design evolution that Kia has introduced globally. For performance enthusiasts worldwide, the EV6 GT represents a thrilling step forward in the electrification of speed and style.
