Hyundai Ioniq 9 Flagship Ev Suv Revealed

Hyundai Ioniq 9: Flagship EV SUV Revealed

Hyundai has unveiled the Ioniq 9, its most luxurious and advanced electric SUV to date, solidifying its position as the flagship of the Ioniq range. This three-row electric SUV combines cutting-edge technology, premium interiors, and impressive performance, setting a new benchmark for the brand’s electric mobility.

Scheduled to debut in Korea and the United States in the first half of 2024, the Ioniq 9 will later expand to European and other markets. It will also make an appearance at the LA Auto Show from November 22 to December 1, 2023.

Performance & Battery: Built for Power and Range

The Hyundai Ioniq 9 boasts an impressive 110.3kWh battery pack, delivering a WLTP-certified range of up to 620km in its Long-Range RWD variant with 19-inch wheels.

Built on the E-GMP platform, the same architecture as the Ioniq 5 and Kia EV9, the Ioniq 9 supports both 400V and 800V charging, allowing ultra-fast charging from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes using a 350kW charger.

Powertrain Options:

Long-Range (RWD & AWD):

  • RWD: 218hp, 350Nm, 0-100km/h in 9.4 seconds.

  • AWD: Adds a 95hp front motor for a total of 313hp, 605Nm, 0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds.

Performance Trim (AWD):

  • Features a dual-motor setup with 218hp on each axle, producing a total of 436hp and 700Nm.

  • Achieves 0-100km/h in a rapid 5.2 seconds, with a top speed of 200km/h.

Smart Features:

  • Terrain Traction Control: AI-driven terrain mode adjusts torque for various road conditions.

  • Dynamic Torque Vectoring & Lateral Wind Stability: For enhanced handling and safety.

  • Towing Capability: Rated for up to 2,500kg, ideal for trailers.

Interior: Spacious Luxury & Cutting-Edge Tech

Hyundai has redefined comfort with six- and seven-seat configurations. The second-row swiveling seats, which can face the third row when stationary, highlight the Ioniq 9's innovative design. Both the first and second rows feature massage functions, ensuring premium comfort for passengers.

Key Interior Highlights:

  • Panoramic Curved Display: Combines a 12-inch infotainment screen and a 12-inch digital cluster.

  • Ambient Lighting: Enhances the cabin's luxurious feel.

  • Universal Island 2.0: A movable center console with versatile storage (5.6L upper tray, 12.6L lower tray).

  • Multi-Zone Climate Control & Air Vents: Ensures optimal cooling for all passengers.

  • Premium Audio Options: A standard 8-speaker system or an optional 14-speaker Bose system.

The luggage capacity impresses with 620 liters, expanding to 1,323 liters with the third row folded. Additionally, RWD models include an 88-liter frunk, while AWD models feature a 52-liter compartment.

Exterior Design: Sleek Yet Bold

The Ioniq 9 combines a swooping aerodynamic profile with bold dimensions, making it a head-turner on the road.

At 5,060mm long, 1,980mm wide, and 1,790mm tall, with a 3,130mm wheelbase, it is larger than Hyundai’s Kia EV9 counterpart.

Despite its size, the drag coefficient of 0.259 Cd rivals that of the Mercedes EQS SUV.

Design Features:

  • Digital Side Mirrors: 7-inch OLED displays replace traditional mirrors, improving aerodynamics.

  • Parametric Pixel Lights: A sleek, slim take on Hyundai’s signature design.

  • Wheel Options: Standard 19-inch wheels with optional 20- and 21-inch upgrades.

  • Color Customization: 16 exterior color options and seven interior finishes.

Safety: A Tech-Forward Approach

Hyundai equips the Ioniq 9 with the latest safety features, including 10 airbags, seat belt pre-tensioners, and ADAS functionalities such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and emergency braking. These advanced systems ensure the utmost safety for all passengers, including those in the third row.

Launch Timeline & Market Availability

The Hyundai Ioniq 9 is set to launch in Korea and the U.S. in early 2024, followed by its introduction to Europe and other global markets. It represents Hyundai’s continued push to deliver innovative EV solutions for diverse markets while maintaining luxury and performance standards.
