Gurugram serves 1,216 drink and drive challans in July

Gurugram Traffic Police took a firm stand against road safety offenses and has so far given more than 1,200 challans to drunken motorists from July 1 to July 20, 2025. The thought behind the campaign is to ensure that the problem of dangerous driving is reduced and the number of fatalities involving drunk drivers on the streets of the city is minimized.

In an effort to ensure the city roads are safer, the Gurugram Traffic Police is in high gear in clamping down on drivers who ply the roads under the influence of alcohol. Between July 1 and July 20, 2025, 1,216 challans were made against the offenders, who were found driving in a drunk state. It was a drive launched by the Commissioner of Police Vikas Arora (IPS) and DCP Traffic Rajesh Mohan.

The clampdown is a continuation of a motive that aims at increasing the level of road discipline and eliminating the cases of fatal accidents involving drunken drivers.

This will support the requirements of Section 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, which provides a legal action to the provisions of driving with the influence of alcohol.

Fracture of Crimes and Community Considerations

The official figures indicated that in the total of 1,216 challans, one of them was on female drivers. In one instance the traffic authorities even seized a car. The initiative has however raised some concern by the population amidst uncertainty whether convicted drivers are given freedom to drive on the road after paying a fine.

A comment left by one of the users on the police message in social media was like this: Will it make any difference, he asked, just to issue a challenge and not impound vehicles and make sure that the violator does not go out on the road?

License Suspension for Unpaid Challans

Besides fining by issuing challans, Gurugram Police has begun cancelling driving licenses of those whose outstanding dues are above three months. It was presented earlier in the month of April, the rule that states that drivers having a record of 3 or more red light jumping or dangerous driving challan in a financial year can incur a three months suspension of drivers license.

The other reform correlates the insurance premium rates of a driver based on the pending challans. Individuals whose fines are outstanding in the preceding year, either two or more, have to pay a higher premium fee in case of the renewal of their motor insurance.

Police Public Safety Tips

In order to curb such incidents, Gurugram Police reminds motorists not to drink in case they expect to drive. When drunk, people are advised to take a taxi or have a sober friend who can drop them off at home. Advice on the official website of the police says, the only way you can be safe is not to drink when you intend to drive.

Conclusion

Since the police department has conducted over 1200 challans within 20 days, it is evident that policemen in Gurugram are not going to allow drunk drivers anymore. The campaign identifies the all-important step on the way to safe roads, and enforcement, awareness, and responsible behavior should be used in unison.
