Five Electric Vehicles Set to Shake Up India's Car Market in 2026

India's electric vehicle segment is heading into one of its most eventful years to date. From Tata Motors electrifying two of its most recognised nameplates to Toyota stepping into the battery-electric space for the very first time in India, 2026 promises a wave of fresh options. Add Kia's Syros EV and Vinfast's budget-friendly VF 3 to that list, and it is clear the Indian EV market is about to become far more crowded and far more interesting.

  • Five new electric vehicles, spanning hatchbacks to three-row SUVs, are all confirmed for a 2026 India launch.
  • The mid-size SUV space is set to face considerable heat as multiple manufacturers introduce new electric powertrain options.

India's electric vehicle momentum shows no signs of letting up. Established names are expanding their EV portfolios, and newer players are staking their claim at the affordable end of the market.

Here is a look at five electric cars that are all confirmed to arrive in India before the year is out.

Tata Sierra EV Revives a Beloved Nameplate With an Electric Heart

Tata Motors is not stopping at a petrol-powered Sierra. The revived mid-size SUV will also receive a fully electric version, and it may even come with a 4x4 drivetrain option.

On the battery front, the Sierra EV is expected to offer 55kWh and 65kWh packs, slotting it neatly between the Curvv EV and the Harrier EV in terms of capacity. The motor is likely to be a slightly toned-down version of what powers the Harrier EV.

Tata Safari EV Steps In as a Three-Row Electric Flagship

Sitting above the Harrier EV in Tata's electric lineup, the Safari EV will take on the Mahindra XEV 9S directly.

Specific powertrain figures have not been confirmed yet, though a slightly more powerful tune compared to the Harrier EV's setup is widely anticipated. As a three-row eSUV, it fills a gap that has been waiting to be addressed in the Indian electric space.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella: Battery-Electric Debut in India

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella marks a significant moment, it will be the carmaker's first battery-electric vehicle in India.

Underpinned by the same platform as the Maruti e Vitara, it carries its own distinct front and rear styling. The Ebella offers two battery configurations, a 49kWh unit producing 142bhp and 189Nm, and a larger 61kWh pack developing 172bhp with the same torque figure.

The larger battery claims a range of up to 543km. The car has already been revealed, with pricing expected to be announced in May 2026.

Kia Syros EV Gears Up for a July 2026 India Showcase

Kia has confirmed that the Syros EV will make its India debut in July 2026. While the petrol-powered Syros is already on sale, the electric variant will bring unique cosmetic and functional changes.

It is expected to mirror the international-specification Hyundai Inster EV, coming with either a 42kWh motor producing 95bhp and 147Nm or a 49kWh setup offering 113bhp with the same 147Nm torque output.

Vinfast VF 3 Takes Aim at the Sub-Rs. 10 Lakh Electric Hatchback Segment

Vietnamese automaker Vinfast is targeting the entry-level electric segment with the VF 3 hatchback. The car is powered by a rear-wheel-drive motor producing 40.2bhp and 110Nm, paired with an 18.64kWh battery pack.

Vinfast claims a range of up to 215km under NEDC testing. One of its competitive advantages is DC fast charging support, with a 10 to 70 per cent charge achievable in 36 minutes.
