Citroen Unveils The Basalt A New Coupe Suv For India

Citroen Unveils the Basalt: A New Coupe SUV for India

Citroen Basalt has finally rolled out the images of its upcoming new Cupe SUV, after much anticipation and teasers. The car is scheduled to launch on August 2, though the official bookings haven't started yet but one can book it unofficially. Here's everything you need to know about the Citroen Basalt.

Booking and Availability

If you're interested in getting your hands on the new Citroen Basalt, you can make a booking for Rs 25,000 at authorized Citroen dealerships throughout India. Deliveries will commence after the official unveiling and once the prices are announced. The newly released official images provide a clear view of the production-ready Basalt, highlighting its full design.

Design Philosophy

The Citroen Basalt showcases the brand's unique design approach. According to Pierre Leclercq, Head of Citroën Design, the Basalt brings together the best qualities of an SUV and a coupe. It combines the strength and versatility of an SUV with the spaciousness and efficiency of a coupe. The design is influenced by classic Citroen models, such as the CX from 1974 and the more recent C4.

The roofline of the Basalt extends seamlessly to the trunk lid, merging with a large tailgate. This design provides easy access to the boot and gives the car a coupe-like silhouette. The strong fenders and the geometric shape of the wheel arches enhance the car's stance, making it look robust and dynamic.

Exterior Features

The Basalt's exterior is largely similar to its sibling, the C3 Aircross, but it stands out with a distinctive side profile and new alloy wheel designs. At the front, the Basalt features the iconic chrome Chevron emblem, a split grille, and a faux silver skid plate. Unlike the C3 Aircross, which has halogen headlamps, the Basalt upgrades to projector LED units, though the LED daytime running lights remain the same.

The vehicle's sculpted clamshell bonnet adds to its bold appearance. The continuity of design elements between the Basalt and the C3 Aircross is evident, but the Basalt boasts unique enhancements that set it apart.

Interior Features

While Citroen has not officially released images of the Basalt's interior, some details have been teased on social media. The Basalt promises several features aimed at enhancing comfort and convenience. These include dedicated armrests for both the driver and passengers, with the rear armrests featuring integrated cupholders and phone holders. The headrests have improved side support, adding to the overall luxurious feel of the interior.

Engine and Performance

Citroen has remained tight-lipped about the exact powertrain details for the Basalt. However, it is expected to share the same platform and engine as the C3 Aircross. This means the Basalt will likely come equipped with a 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine. The engine is anticipated to produce 109 bhp and 190 Nm of torque, or 205 Nm with the automatic transmission. Buyers will have the option of a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

In Summary, The Citroen Basalt is a promising new addition to Citroen’s lineup in India, blending the strengths of an SUV with the sleek design of a coupe. Its design philosophy pays homage to classic Citroen models while introducing modern enhancements. With its stylish exterior, anticipated premium interior features, and expected reliable performance, Basalt aims to cater to the diverse needs of Indian customers. As the official debut approaches, potential buyers can look forward to experiencing a vehicle that combines Citroen's tradition with innovative design. Keep an eye out for more details as Citroen reveals the full specifications and pricing of the Basalt on August 2.
