Our Park+ Highlight of the Day includes launch details on the upcoming Five-Door Mahindra Thar.
“The Thar Five-Door will not be on sale this year as had been predicted, but rather in 2024, according to Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director & CEO of Auto & Farms sector - Mahindra & Mahindra.”
It is anticipated that sales of the much awaited Mahindra Thar five-door will get underway in 2024. The Mahindra Thar 5-Door will be on sale in the second quarter of the calendar year 2024, according to our dealer sources. The Thar Five-Door will, undoubtedly, be longer than the present Thar while also having a larger wheelbase, making the SUV more useful.
With the Thar 5-door, Mahindra intends to provide a variety of engine combinations from the start. According to sources, it will retain the 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol and 2.2-liter diesel engines from the Thar 3-door, both of which will be available with manual and automatic gears.
Mahindra will be able to offer the Thar 5-door in a competitive pricing range with the introduction of a RWD variant. However, the Thar 5-door won't be shorter than four meters long or equipped with the Thar 3-door's 118 horsepower, 1.5-liter diesel engine. As a result, the 5-door model will not be eligible for the same tax breaks as the Thar 3-door 1.5 diesel RWD.
Longer wheelbase—anticipated to be 300mm longer than Thar 3-door—will allow for the extra two doors, and it's also likely to get whole new body panels. This is due to Mahindra's potential to widen the track or space between the wheels in order to preserve the ideal wheelbase-to-track ratio for stability. The Thar 5-door will still have boxy dimensions, flared wheel arches, and a spare wheel positioned on the back door, though, which are all distinguishing features of the Thar design language.
The interior's general layout will be quite similar to the Thar 3-door once more. A few additional amenities that are now absent from the 3-door model, such a bigger infotainment screen, a front center armrest, and a sunglass holder, could be added.
The extended wheelbase of the Thar 5-door should provide additional space in the second row, but test mulles have only been sighted so far with two separate back seats; it is unknown whether Mahindra will offer a three-seater bench arrangement on the 5-door Thar. It will definitely have a bigger boot than the 3-door version, that much is clear.
The verified pricing of the new Five-door Thar by Mahindra Group has not yet been released because the car has not yet been launched.
