The most recent figures show that white has become the most preferred colour for Indian car consumers, representing a startling 42% of all vehicles sold in 2022. This is a huge increase compared to the previous year when white automobiles only made up 36% of all vehicle sales. For the second year in a row, white was the most favoured colour among Indian automobile buyers.
Black, grey, blue, red, green, and gold colour car sales in India somewhat increased in 2022 compared to the prior year. Shashank Srivastava, senior executive officer for marketing and sales at Maruti Suzuki India, claims that the reduced waiting period for vehicles other than white is the cause of the increase. Also, darker-coloured models are more popular in the rapidly expanding sport utility vehicle market because they represent refinement, elegance, and power.
According to Srivastava, the most popular car colours in India for a long time have been white, silver, and grey, accounting for 65-70% of all car sales. White is popular because it is simple to maintain, looks better over time, has a high resale value, improves nighttime safety, absorbs less heat in the summer, gives the impression that little automobiles are bigger, and lacks negative connotations. According to Srivastava, the three colours have shifted positions within the 65-70% split during the previous three decades, with white being the most popular.
According to Hyundai Motor Corporation, white cars are more popular with consumers because they are less noticeable when scuffed, scraped, or dusted, are less expensive to maintain, and absorb less heat in the summer. The business also noted that from 2021 to 2022, its clients' preferences for white rose from 52% to 55%. White is a popular colour in the used automobile market since it is one of the easiest colours to maintain and is frequently used for rental and fleet vehicles.
In conclusion, Indian vehicle consumers' shifting tastes and preferences are reflected in the prevalence of white cars in the Indian market. It would be interesting to see how classic hues like white and black popularity change as auto manufacturers continue to add a wider spectrum of colours to their product lineup. Yet, it appears that white vehicles will continue to dominate Indian roads for now.
