Volkswagen India has confirmed that the Golf GTI, one of its most iconic hot hatches, will launch on May 26, 2025. The Mk 8.5 version—essentially a facelift of the eighth-gen Golf—will be brought in as a full import, with only 150 units allocated for the first batch, all of which have already been booked.
Bookings have been temporarily closed, underscoring the high enthusiasm surrounding this niche performance model.
Expected Pricing and Deliveries
The Volkswagen Golf GTI is likely to be priced at around ₹60 lakh (on-road), making it the most expensive car in VW India’s portfolio, surpassing even the Tiguan R Line. Deliveries for the hot hatch are scheduled to begin in June 2025 at select dealerships across India.
Powertrain and Performance
The GTI will be powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol TSI engine, producing 265 hp and 370 Nm of torque, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Power is sent exclusively to the front wheels, helping the car sprint from 0–100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h, making this hatchback a true driver’s car.
Design and Features
On the exterior, the Golf GTI features a sleek illuminated VW badge, GTI badging, and a sporty bumper with a honeycomb-patterned air dam and X-shaped fog lights.
Other highlights include:
Matrix LED headlights
Red GTI brake calipers and badging
18-inch alloy wheels
Roof spoiler and twin chrome exhausts
Smoked LED tail-lamps
It will be available in four colours: Kings Red, Grenadilla Black, Oryx White, and Moonstone Grey.
Inside, the cabin features:
A GTI-branded leather-wrapped steering wheel
A 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system
A 10.25-inch digital driver display
Wireless phone charging
7-speaker sound system
Panoramic sunroof
Iconic tartan upholstery with red accents
Conclusion
The Golf GTI’s launch brings performance-hatch excitement to India’s luxury import scene. With just 150 units initially and a power-packed spec sheet, it’s expected to cater to true enthusiasts seeking both daily drivability and weekend thrills. Combined with Volkswagen’s precision engineering and iconic styling, the GTI may quickly carve out a cult following in India.
