Toyota and the automotive safety brand of India have achieved a major milestone with the Toyota Innova Hycross turning out to be the first vehicle to achieve a Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP) 5-star safety rating in the safety crash tests.
This is because the Hycross stands as the first Toyota product, the first MPV, or the first hybrid car ever to be put to the test under the new safety regime in India- and to come out with flying colours.
Outstanding Scores in Adult and Child Occupant Protection
The Innova Hycross has received 30.47 points out of 32 in the adult occupant protection (AOP) category. It received 14.47/16 during the frontal offset deformable barrier test, demonstrating reasonable protection to the head, the neck, and the knees of both occupants; however, chest protection was measured as adequate.
The MPV was impeccable in the side movable deformable barrier test by scoring a full 16/16, and got an OK in the side pole test.
In the Child Occupant Protection (COP), the Hycross once again excelled with the score of 45 in a possible 49, one of the highest scores in COP to date in BNCAP testing. During the dynamic crash testing, the car scored a cumulative 24 points out of 24, and the CRS installation evaluation as well, 12 points out of 12. It has recorded 9 out of 13 in the vehicle evaluation test. The rear-facing child seats were mounted on the test structure to test both 18-month-old and 3-year-old dolls with an ISOFIX point and support legs.
Holistic Safety Features on each Version
Bharat NCAP stated that a 5-star rating was given to the petrol and hybrid versions of the Innova Hycross.
As a standard, the MPV is fitted with powerful safety equipment consisting of:
Six airbags
Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
3-point seatbelts for all passengers with seatbelt reminders
ISOFIX anchorages
Pedestrian protection compliance (AIS-100)
The top-end ZX (O) variant comes with additional security features that include the Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), which increases its abilities in lane-keeping, adaptive speed control, and haptic emergency brakes.
A New Standard of Indian MPVs
The new Toyota Innova Hycross is not only redefining the concept of MPV luxury, as well as performance, but has even become a leader when it comes to the concept of safety within its segment. This 5-star BNCAP score confirms Toyota in its determination to offer the safest vehicles to its passengers, including children, and the Hycross is an excellent compromise selection that Indian families must take into account when choosing their vehicles.
