The Evolution Of Tata Curvv And Curvv Ev In The Suv Coupe Revolution

The Evolution of Tata Curvv and Curvv EV in the SUV-Coupe Revolution

Tata Motors, the leading Indian automotive manufacturing industry innovated and modernized with Tata Curvv; it is an electric car and conventional ICE version. The segment that Tata is targeting with the Curvv is SUV-coupe and is defined by a radical and innovative design both aesthetically and functionally. Surprisingly, the final designs of the cars are very close to the proposed ideas, thus, emphasizing the appreciation of Tata for the aesthetics of the products. This piece looks at one particular concept car- Tata curvv and how it evolved from its mere conception stage to the near-production models that we have seen at various motor shows.

2022 Tata Curvv EV Concept

The journey began with the unveiling of the Tata Curvv EV concept in 2022. This concept introduced Tata’s latest design philosophy, which has since influenced other models like the facelifted Nexon and the Harrier-Safari duo. The Curvv EV concept was characterized by its sleek, futuristic LED light strip running along the bonnet edge, split headlights, and a distinctive sloping roofline. The rising shoulder line at the rear and robust body cladding gave it a sporty SUV demeanour.

At the rear, the design was groundbreaking for Tata, featuring connected tail lights that stretched across the width of the vehicle, a trendsetting coupe roofline with an integrated two-part roof spoiler, and a chunky rear bumper. This design set the tone for Tata’s future vehicles, merging elegance with a robust SUV character.

2023 Tata Curvv ICE Concept

In 2023, at the Auto Expo, Tata showcased the ICE concept version of the Curvv, adapting the EV design for an internal combustion engine. This version made subtle yet significant changes to the original EV design. The closed-off grille and blue accents were replaced with an open grille, air dam, and red styling details, aligning more with conventional ICE aesthetics. Despite these changes, the ICE concept retained the flush door handles, connected tail lamps, and LED DRLs that spanned the front end, preserving the futuristic appeal of the original design.

2024 Tata Curvv ICE Concept

The Tata Curvv ICE concept took another step towards production at the 2024 Bharat Mobility Expo. This closer-to-production model showcased minor revisions while staying true to the original design ethos. The front end featured updates reminiscent of the Nexon, including triangular headlight and fog lamp setups, LED DRLs, and a chrome-studded bumper. The standout profile with its coupe roofline flowing into a high-seated rear end remained a signature element.

The concept also introduced new 18-inch dual-tone petal-patterned alloy wheels, enhancing its sporty appeal. The rear retained the connected tail lights and split roof-integrated spoiler but with more polished details, signalling a refined transition from concept to reality.

Production-spec Tata Curvv and Curvv EV

The production-spec Tata Curvv closely mirrors the concept model showcased at the 2024 Bharat Mobility Expo. It maintains the dual-tone petal-patterned alloy wheels and the signature wraparound gloss black cladding. The primary updates include the grille and front bumper, which now feature body-coloured inserts, replacing the earlier silver accents. The side profile and rear continue to exhibit the coupe roofline and full-width tail light, ensuring the production model stays true to the concept's vision.

The production Curvv EV, while retaining most design elements from its 2022 concept, introduces several refinements. The front end has been updated to closely resemble the Nexon EV, featuring a sealed-off grille, connected DRLs extending downward, and headlight clusters linked by black plastic. Conventional wing mirrors replace the concept’s cameras, and the production model boasts aerodynamically styled wheels with aero blades. The side profile now features conventional flush-fitting door handles, and while the floating C-pillar from the concept is omitted, the wraparound gloss black cladding remains. At the rear, the Curvv EV retains the full-width tail light and split rear spoiler, but with more polished styling tweaks to the bumper.

Conclusion

The Tata Curvv and Curvv EV mark Tata Motors' bold entry into the SUV-coupe market in India, blending cutting-edge design with practical functionality. As Tata prepares to introduce these models to the market, they are set to redefine expectations and set new standards in the compact SUV segment. These models will soon be joined by another SUV coupe, the Citroen Basalt, further enriching the Indian automotive landscape with innovative design and technology.
