About two months ago, the Indian automotive market officially welcomed Tesla, with the Model Y facelift undergoing testing in Pune. Heavy camouflage swathed the KA-03-registered car, but on close scrutiny of the lights and overall proportions, it became clear to be a global facelifted Model Y revealed at the start of this year.
This facelifted Model Y is likely to debut along with the updated Model 3, which has already commenced homologation in India. Thus, an official launch in India should be close enough.
Refined Styling and Aerodynamics
New features include a split-level head lamp configuration, a front full-width light bar, and an all more sporty interpretation of the facelifted bumper. At the back, the new updates are defined by different taillights, a different Tesla logotype, and a new placement of the number plate, making the SUV look newer.
Some improvements on the bonnet, spoiler, and wheels reduced drag for this model from 0.23 Cd to 0.22 Cd, definitely reflecting on overall range and performance benefits.
The facelift Model Y has also dimensionally stretched to cover a length of 4,797mm, along with just a hint wider, so as to add to road presence. New colors include Fresh Ice Blue, Stealth Grey, and Ultra Red, targeted at a broader customer base.
Truly Upgraded Interiors & Powertrain Options
The major features are comfort and technology-centric. The cabin is more well-insulated, uses soft-touch materials, emphasizes active front-seat ventilation, allows powered rear-seat reclining coupled with entertainment and climate control via an 8-inch rear screen, and has accent LED ambient lighting. That atmosphere of luxury is combined with the ubiquitous 15.4-inch screen at the center.
It offers Long Range AWD and RWD configurations. The CLTC-certified ranges are 662km for RWD and 719km for AWD, while they accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 5.9 seconds for RWD and 4.3 seconds for AWD. In just 15 minutes, the Model Y can receive fast charging from 250 kW, gaining an overall range of 270km.
Tesla's Roadmap for India
Tesla plans to land in India with CKD importation, with contract manufacturing and localized production in the foreseeable future. An indirect-to-consumer model is prepared to start with the first retail outlet in Mumbai. The company also aims to set up its Supercharger network for fast charging infrastructure across large metropolitan cities.
With advanced tech, premium design, and the rising demand for EVs, the facelift of the Tesla Y might stir things in India's electric SUV space.
