Tata Motors is set to unveil its much-anticipated entry-level electric vehicle, the Tata Punch EV, tomorrow, with an official launch scheduled for later this month. The electric micro SUV has been spotted testing several times, and Tata has released a teaser video on its dedicated EV social media channel, sparking excitement among enthusiasts. While the vehicle has not been officially revealed, spy shots suggest a new design inspired by the facelifted Nexon EV.
Nexon EV-Inspired Design
The Punch EV is expected to maintain a similar silhouette to its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart but with distinctive changes in the fascia. The front profile may feature lighting elements reminiscent of the Nexon EV, including spanning LED DRLs and sleek LED headlights. Unique grille designs and alloy wheels are also anticipated.
Cabin and Features
While detailed interior shots are yet to surface, expectations are high for a cabin design akin to Tata's recent models, featuring a larger central screen. The Punch EV may adopt its ICE variant's black-and-white theme but with an altered dashboard layout and EV-specific accents. Additional features may include a sizable touchscreen infotainment system, digital driver’s display, automatic climate control, sunroof, and cruise control.
Over 500 Km Range?
Tata will likely offer multiple battery packs for the Punch EV, with a claimed range of nearly 500 km. The new-generation electric powertrain setup may also feature multi-level regenerative braking, possibly with paddle shifters.
Safety and Pricing
Safety features will include up to 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), a tyre pressure monitoring system, rearview camera, and ISOFIX child seat anchors. With an estimated starting price of Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom), the Punch EV is poised to compete with the Citroen eC3, offering a premium alternative to the Tata Tiago EV and the MG Comet EV. It aims to be a smaller and more affordable option compared to the Tata Nexon EV.
Excitement is building as Tata Motors prepares to unveil the Punch EV, a promising addition to India's growing electric vehicle market. Stay tuned for the official unveiling tomorrow and the subsequent launch later this month.
