Tata Altroz Racer R3 Variant Analysis Is The Top Spec Variant Worth It

Tata Altroz Racer R3 Variant Analysis: Is the Top-Spec Variant Worth It?

Your search for a sporty premium hatchback under 12 Lakhs can come to an end now with the Tata Altroz Racer. Currently, this hatchback is one of the most popular hatchbacks in the country. Reportedly, it gets a more powerful turbo-petrol engine over the regular Altroz and comes in three broad variants: R1, R2, and R3. This analysis will help you decide if the R3, which costs Rs 50,000 more than the mid-level R2, is worth the extra money or not.

Pricing Details

The Tata Altroz Racer R3 is priced at Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This top-spec variant commands a Rs 50,000 premium over the mid-spec R2. Here’s a closer look at what the R3 offers.

Key Features of the Altroz Racer R3

The Tata Altroz Racer R3 boasts several premium features that set it apart from its lower variants. Here’s an overview:

  • Exterior: The R3 features auto-projector headlights with LED DRLs, 16-inch alloy wheels, front fog lamps, and unique 'Racer' badges on the front fenders.

  • Interior: Inside, you'll find leatherette upholstery, a front sliding center armrest, ventilated front seats (a first in this segment), and an air purifier.

  • Comfort & Convenience: The R3 is equipped with a 7-inch digital driver’s display, a sunroof, a wireless phone charger, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen with connected car technology.

  • Safety: It includes six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), rain-sensing wipers, and a 360-degree camera with a blind view monitor.

  • Other Features: Additional features include a dual-tone exterior paint scheme, dual white racing stripes, blacked-out ORVMs, dual-tip exhaust, leatherette-wrapped steering wheel and armrest, orange ambient lighting on the dashboard, all four power windows, height-adjustable driver’s seat, electrically adjustable and auto-fold ORVMs, automatic AC with Xpress cool feature, rear AC vents, cruise control, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ABS with EBD, cornering stability control, rear wiper with washer, and rear defogger.

These features collectively offer a high-end experience, making the R3 a compelling choice for those looking for a premium hatchback.

Areas for Improvement

While the Altroz Racer R3 is packed with features, it could have been even better with a few additional elements. The inclusion of a heads-up display (HUD), which was featured in the concept model but not in the production version, would have been a valuable addition. Moreover, the lack of an automatic transmission option at launch puts it at a disadvantage compared to rivals like the Hyundai i20 N Line, which offers a 7-speed DCT.

Comparing the Variants

R1 Variant: The R1 is the best value-for-money option. It offers a top-spec feel with its design and features, including six airbags as standard. This makes it a well-rounded package.

R2 Variant: The R2 is considered the best variant overall. It includes everything from a sunroof to a wireless phone charger and a 360-degree camera, priced at a Rs 1 lakh premium over the R1.

R3 Variant: Choose the R3 if you want the full premium experience. It offers unique features like ventilated front seats, an air purifier, and connected car technology, which justify the Rs 50,000 premium over the R2.

In the final statement, The Tata Altroz Racer R3 is a well-equipped, premium variant that offers a flagship experience in the sporty hatchback segment. Its unique features like ventilated front seats and an air purifier set it apart from competitors. However, the lack of an automatic transmission and the absence of a heads-up display might make some buyers consider other options. Ultimately, if you seek the most luxurious and feature-rich version of the Altroz Racer and are willing to pay a bit extra, the R3 variant is worth considering.
