Skoda Superb breaks Guinness World Record: 2,831 km on one tank of fuel

The Skoda Superb has set a remarkable Guinness World Record by covering 2,831 km on a single tank of diesel. Driven across multiple European countries, the feat showcases the sedan’s outstanding fuel efficiency and precision engineering. This record-breaking journey highlights Skoda’s commitment to innovation, endurance, and real-world performance.

The Skoda Superb has achieved what many considered impossible for a production car. It travelled 2,831 km (1,759 miles) on a single tank of fuel, earning an official Guinness World Records title for the “Greatest distance driven on a single tank of fuel (standard production car)”.

Driven by Polish rally driver Miko Marczyk from 5–7 March 2025, the journey spanned multiple countries and showcased both the Superb’s engineering and the dedication of the driver and team.

The route and method

Marczyk, behind the wheel of a fourth-generation Škoda Superb, set off from Poland and, with careful planning, passed through Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands before returning to Poland all on one fill.

An average fuel consumption of just around 2.6 litres/100 km plus careful driving techniques and optimal conditions. The feat puts the vehicle firmly into the spotlight for ultra-efficient driving, though it must be noted that the conditions were ideal and the drive highly orchestrated.

What this means for the Superb

While the Superb isn’t the fastest car on the road, this record confirms that its diesel powertrain, aerodynamics and fuel-saving potential are more than just marketing claims.
For Skoda, this is a powerful statement: the brand isn’t just about practical, roomy cars. It can push the boundaries of what “efficient” means in real‐world long-haul driving.

For drivers, it underlines the potential benefits of eco-driving practices: smooth acceleration, modest speeds, minimal heavy braking, optimized tyres and aerodynamics.

Broader implications

In a world increasingly focused on electrification, this record reminds us that internal-combustion vehicles still have a role in demonstrating efficiency breakthroughs. For consumers in markets like India, where fuel cost and range anxiety matter, the Superb’s accomplishment can resonate.

The Skoda Superb’s world-record drive is more than a publicity stunt — it’s a showcase of what’s possible when car, driver and strategy align. It won't affect day-to-day ownership directly, but it sharpens the conversation around fuel economy and real-world driving potential.
