Skoda has revealed that the Superb will return in a completely new form after being phased out of production with the Octavia and Superb due to BS6 Phase 2 standards. Currently, the company is vigorously advertising its nationwide safety campaign, "Safer with Skoda." Global NCAP awarded the Kushaq and Slavia a 5-star safety certification, and this advertisement showcases the superior engineering and security of Skoda cars.
The fourth-generation Skoda Superb has been previewed in teaser photos, which show a recognisable yet polished look. The images show crisper, more streamlined design elements, including a single, vintage-looking L-shaped LED headlamp signature. The sketch shows the 2019 Superb's updated exterior features at the back, including thin C-shaped LED taillamps and a lip spoiler.
Skoda will introduce the new-generation Superb in India in 2023, coupled with future ambitions for local assembly. The specific powerplant for the variant designed specifically for India has not yet been determined. Since it would be excessively expensive to modify the present 2.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine of the outgoing model to satisfy BS6 Phase 2 regulations, other solutions have been considered.
In response to the possibility of using powerful hybrids, Petr Solc, brand director of Skoda India, stated, “Strong hybrids can be one part of the solution, but Skoda has a strong focus on the EV market, and we would like to test that first.”
Due to the Superb and Octavia's same engine, both models were phased out of the executive sector, leaving a sizable void in the sedan market. Skoda launched the Octavia as its introduction into the Indian market. Skoda concedes that Octavia maintained consistent sales throughout its discontinuation era, which has pushed the firm to think about a comeback. The Superb is being given precedence since it will gauge interest before the same-engined Octavia is again introduced.
According to Solc, the Octavia vRS, which has a devoted fanbase in India and is frequently sold out, might briefly return. The Octavia RS iV's newest model has undergone testing and is equipped with an electric motor and a smaller 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The electric motor's 13kWh battery-powered improves the 1.4 TSI engine's 150hp and 250Nm output.
Along with its dedication to electric cars (EVs), Skoda emphasises the value of keeping a broad assortment of vehicles with internal combustion engines (ICEs). Despite the possibility that consumer demand for sedans may be smaller than that for SUVs, Skoda is confident that the Superb will dominate its market and open the way for introducing future sedan variants.
