Volkswagen India has introduced a sporty and feature-rich new-generation Tiguan R-Line SUV that stands tall as the flagship offering. The Tiguan-R Line, with a price tag of Rs 49 lakh (ex-showroom), is currently being offered in limited numbers through the CBU (Completely Built Unit) channel, thus making it an exclusive pick in the premium SUV segment.
Sharper Styling, Sportier Stance
The new Tiguan R-Line shows a bold character as compared to its predecessor. Aggressive right from the front with a large mesh-pattern air dam, connected LED headlights, patches of chrome, and a silver skid plate. The sides have 19-inch alloys with slim cladding, while the rear bears a smoked-effect full-width LED light bar and roof spoiler.
It is available in six vibrant colours, including Cipressino Green, Grenadilla Black, Nightshade Blue, Oryx White, Oyster Silver, and Persimmon Red, thus increasing its viewability.
Interior: Premium Meets Practical
The overall cabin has been given a black theme peppered with blue contrast stitching and sporty ‘R’ badging. In the middle stands a humongous 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system that controls climate and supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The digital cockpit is completed with a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel. Other important features are Level 2 ADAS, self-parking technology (Park Assist Plus), massaging front seats, tri-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, 30-colour ambient lighting, wireless charging for two devices, and more.
Performance: Turbocharged Power and 4Motion Grip
Under that skin, the Tiguan R-Line has a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with 204hp and 320Nm of torque. Mates to a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission, it sends power to all four wheels via Volkswagen's 4Motion AWD system, accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 7.1 seconds and touching a top speed of 229 km/h. The claimed fuel economy is 12.58 km/l.
Rivals and Value Positioning
At Rs 49 lakh, the Tiguan R-Line goes up against a whole lot of premium SUVs like the BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA, Audi Q3, Nissan X-Trail, Citroen C5 Aircross, and Jeep Meridian. While priced higher than the outgoing model (due to its CBU status), it serves much more in terms of performance and tech features. Through German engineering, the Tiguan R-Line makes quite a strong case for anyone looking for an SUV that combines a sporty character, advanced technology, and exclusivity.
