Minister Nitin Gadkari Has Launched The Bharat NCAP Crash Test Ratings
The Indian government has launched the Bharat New Car Assessment Program or B-NCAP. This will play a pivotal role in improving the car safety standard in the country by increasing the safety standards of vehicles that weigh up to 3.5 tonnes. The B-NCAP will take effect from 1st October 2023.
All the cars will be awarded a star rating for all occupants such as Adult Occupants (AOP) and Child Occupants (COP). The manufacturers will have to submit an application FORM 70-A to the government-designated agency and a few manufacturers have already volunteered some of their models for evaluation under the B-NCAP program.
The car safety will be evaluated by front impact, side impact, and side-impact pole test.
Unsoo Kim, MD and CEO, of Hyundai Motor India Limited said, “We welcome the BNCAP safety initiative by Govt. of India and believe this effort will raise safety standards, empower consumers with vital information, and make Indian roads safer for all.”
Vikram Gulati, Country Head and Executive Vice President, of Toyota Kirloskar Motor said “We appreciate the Government’s decision to introduce Bharat-NCAP and strongly believe that it is a step in the right direction.”
Petr Solc, the Brand Director at Skoda Auto India said “We appreciate that the Indian Government is putting greater emphasis on safety regulations and policies that improve car safety. The introduction of BNCAP is a step in the right direction.”
