Approximately 55 Modern Classic automobiles drove through Mumbai on Sunday, providing an amazing spectacle for onlookers. The Bombay Vintage Automobile Club arranged the event, drawing several auto lovers from across the city.
More than 55 modern classic automobiles participated in the second Modern Classic Rally, organised by Autocar India and sponsored by Vredestein Tires in collaboration with Gulf Oil and Autoglym. The event included rare supercars that are more than ten years old, as well as vehicles made between 1970 and the early 2000s. Ashish Shelar, the MLA and president of the Mumbai BJP, officially opened the event, which was held at the Grand Hyatt in Kalina and included classic cars like the Bentley Brooklands, Citroen DS, and Ferrari Mondial.
The Modern Classic Rally featured a variety of vehicles, such as coupes, SUVs, and limited-edition supercars, that are usually between 10 and 50 years old. The event highlighted famous automobiles that speak for traditional engineering and contemporary performance standards. It also recognised the rising appeal of modern classics among automotive enthusiasts in India and worldwide. The procession of participating automobiles attracted auto enthusiasts who avidly snapped pictures of the parade as it travelled from BKC to the Worli Sea Face and back. The rally featured iconic Japanese vehicles like the Nissan R33 GT-R and Mazda MX5 Miata, American muscle cars like the Mustang Mach 1 and Pontiac Firebird, and European automobiles like the Aston Martin DBS and Bentley Brooklands.
Along with off-road vehicles like the first-generation Range Rover, Nissan Patrol, and Toyota Land Cruiser 80 series, the rally also included rare and exotic automobiles like the Citroen DS, Ferrari Mondial, and Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe. Participating prominent collectors from around the nation displayed almost 70% of the cars at the rally for the first time. The event's curator, Perseus Bandrawalla, emphasised the mechanical engineering and nostalgia of contemporary antique automobiles, which are quickly spreading worldwide as popular car types. Participants like Shanay Shah expressed their delight for the occasion and its possibilities for development in the future.
The only Ferrari Mondial QV in India is owned by Hemen Choksey, who expressed his joy at driving the rare vehicle despite the difficulty in obtaining parts for it. The performance tyre line from Vredestein, which was on show in India, was also exhibited during the event. The head of Vredestein Tyres' customer service for the south and west, MS Satishkumar, stated his delight in being a part of the modern classic movement. The second Modern Classic Rally was a huge success, with participants and onlookers appreciating the remarkable collection of vintage automobiles.
