Mumbai-Pune Expressway Update: Confirmed Toll Hikes; Non-FASTag Vehicles Now to Pay Double-Toll

Starting April 1, the toll on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will increase, making travel costlier for motorists. Four-wheelers will see a Rs 5 hike for a one-way trip, while other vehicle categories will face an increase of Rs 15 to Rs 20. The Eastern Expressway will also see a 3% toll hike. FASTag will become compulsory across all Maharashtra toll plazas, with non-FASTag vehicles paying double the toll. From April 2025, toll-free travel will be eliminated, and FASTag installation will be necessary to avoid penalties.

With effect from April 1, the toll will be slapped for all motorists travelling on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. As per the report in Times Now, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation has increased the toll rates to make the journey on this route even more expensive.

Mumbai-Pune Expressway: Toll Hike

The toll on one way for four-wheelers will increase by Rs 5. An extra charge of Rs 10 will be applied for four-wheelers for the return trip. Officials have confirmed that although other category vehicles will see an increase in the toll by Rs 15 to Rs 20, average increase among them will be Rs 15 to Rs 20.

Eastern Expressway: Toll Hike

Not limited to Mumbai-Pune, the Eastern Expressway has also been revised in toll rates. There are further financial pressures for those daily commuters, according to the 3% hike levied on the toll rates on this road.

FASTag To Become Mandatory

The High Court has dismissed a petition challenging the mandatory use of FASTag. FASTag will become compulsory from 1st April in all toll plazas in Maharashtra. Vehicles without FASTag will be punished by paying a double toll.

Even though FASTag is made compulsory by the central government some of the drivers are not following it. The stricter implementation of it will be to clear the congestion at the toll plazas and make it digital.

Advantages of FASTag

  • Time-saving: Increases speed for traveling through toll booths and minimizes the time spent in toll booths. Digital cash payments: No cash payments required.

  • Savings benefits: Some toll plazas give discounts to FASTag users.

  • Penalty for Non-FASTag Vehicles: From April 2025, any vehicle without a FASTag will be charged double the toll amount. So if the toll fee for a four-wheeler is Rs 200, a vehicle without a FASTag will have to pay Rs 400.

Key Points To Remember

  • Toll hike from April 1: Toll for the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will be increased by Rs 5 for the four-wheeler.

  • Increase on Eastern Expressway: Toll rates will go up by three per cent. F

  • FASTag mandatory: Vehicles without FASTag will have to pay double the toll. No toll-free travels after 2025: FASTag installation will be necessary to avoid financial penalties.
