The latest in the range of sub-compact SUVs that the German automotive conglomerate Volkswagen has recently entered into the market is the Volkswagen Tera. The vehicle is already in production, and has revealed its first pictures.
Now, presumably, this SUV will also land soon on the Indian shores. As far as the reports go, the Brazil Tera will have a couple of engine options making it different from the India Tera, which has now been unveiled. So here are the details.
Volkswagen Tera engine options as far as India goes
Volkswagen will offer the Tera with the same 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI turbo petrol engine. It could be found on the newly launched Skoda Kushaq. Other Volkswagen and Skoda to have this engine are: the Virtus, Slavia, Taigun, and Kushaq.
In all the above cars plus the Tera to debut, the output will be 118 bhp of power and 178 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options for this variant will include a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
Other than this, Volkswagen will then, at launch or maybe a few months after the actual introduction of the Tera, throw in its mightier 1.5-litre four-cylinder TSI EVO turbo petrol engine into the Tera. The motor produces 150 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. The transmission options will consist of a 6-speed manual and a DSG gearbox.
Tera engine options in Brazil
The engine options of the Tera offered in Brazil, meanwhile, has a 1.0-litre MPI naturally aspirated petrol engine, which might be a three-cylinder unit producing 84 bhp as well as 101 Nm torque under the hood somewhat through a 5-speed manual gearbox. There is also a 1.0-litre turbo three-cylinder motor as well, which makes 116 bhp and 165 Nm of torque, which is slightly lower than the Indian model.
Volkswagen kicked off the production of the Tera at the Taubaté plant in Brazil. This model is based on the MQB A0 platform, which is being shared with Brazilian-spec Polo, Nivus, and T-Cross. This same platform also supports the new Kushaq, Virtus, Taigun, Slavia, and Kushaq in India.
Introducing Volkswagen Tera Indian Specifications
The engine options are not all that will change with the Tera for India. For those who do not know, Tera in Brazil exceeds four meters. However, if it comes here in that unaltered form, which won't surprise many, it won't pass into the category of under-4-meter SUVs and thus be subjected to heavier tax.
Aside from this, the Tera will look exactly like that of the Brazil model as far as design goes. For the upcoming sub-compact SUV, outside, there is a full set of traditional yet sleek and modern-looking LED headlights with LED DRLs. There will also be a bold new front bumper with unique U-shaped design elements and large air dams.
On the profiles, the Tera will demand a design that goes far beyond normal, in which 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels decorate gracefully. Slightly sloping roofline is the prominent feature that gives Tera a peculiar personality. In contrast, at the rear, the Tera will be equipped with LED tail lamps, a chunky bumper with gloss black detailing, and a rather huge matte black insert.
Inside, Tera will be equipped with a large free-standing 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument gauge cluster of an equal 10.25-inch size, automatic climate control, and multi-function steering wheels like Virtus and Taigun. The SUV will also come with ultra-modern features such as a single-pane electric sunroof, wireless charger, wireless Android Auto, Apple Car Play, and some more.
