Barely 8 months after its successful launch, MG Motor India is gearing up to launch the first significant update for its Windsor electric SUV. Scheduled for an update next month, the Windsor will feature yet another facelift with a larger battery pack of 50.6 kWh and an extended list of features, making it a compelling proposition in an ever-expanding pool of contenders in the EV space.
Bigger Battery, Better Range
Current sales of the Windsor offer an ARAI-certified 332km range from a 38 kWh battery pack. However, this new battery pack with 50.6 kWh capacity, which was already in use in the Indonesian-spec Wuling Cloud EV, will be introduced to the India-spec Windsor, claiming an extended range of up to 460km on the CLTC cycle.
With added size, the Windsor will nevertheless keep the power and torque ratings at 136 hp and 200Nm, respectively, with the same front-wheel-drive configuration. The improved battery capacity could possibly facilitate a real-world range of about 400km, thus giving it an attractive proposition for those weekend getaways further away from urban confines.
New Features Incoming: ADAS Suite
MG is likely to develop an updated features list for the Windsor, along with the bigger battery. One of the key upgrades will be the presence of an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite, which will give assurance to the Windsor, bolstering its safety and tech credentials.
Details with regard to the full list of ADAS features are awaited; nevertheless, this move will confer a similarity to modern EV competitors that are slowly implementing such high-grade safety technology.
Strong Sales Performance
The Windsor has become a notable success for MG Motor India since its September 2024 launch date, selling 19,394 units in 7 months. Averaging 2,700-plus units a month, the Windsor made higher monthly sales than the long-dominating Tata Nexon EV. The larger battery introduction is expected to fuel the market momentum further.
However, buyers can expect a marginal increase in the ex-showroom price of the Windsor, which is currently pegged between Rs 14 lakh and Rs 16 lakh.
With these updates, MG Windsor seems set to be one of the most attractive EV options in India's young electric vehicle market.
