Faulty Wiring Harness Prompts Recall of AMG E-Class in India. Mercedes-Benz has recalled 70 AMG E-Class models due to a wiring harness issue that could lead to overheating and a fire risk. The affected cars will be repaired free of charge.

The high-performance AMG E-Class models under the Mercedes-Benz India recall of 70 units are reported at risk of fire due to a malfunctioning wiring harness for transmission purposes. Affected are both AMG E63 S and AMG E53 4Matic+ models.

What You Need to Know about the Recall of Mercedes-AMG E-Class

Mercedes-Benz India has formally recalled 70 units of AMG E-Class performance sedans due to the possibility of fire hazard with electrical fault. The recall encompasses two previous generation AMG models-the E63 S and E53 4Matic+ which were manufactured from 2021 to 2023.

While recalls are not uncommon in the auto industry, this issue is especially serious because it could lead to a fire as a result of a short circuit. The German luxury automaker made proactive efforts to reach out to customers affected by this issue, ensuring remediation without charge.

Which Models Are Affected?

The recall applies to selected units within the AMG E-Class family:

  • AMG E53 4Matic+ – 20 units, produced January 21, 2021, January 20, 2023

  • AMG E63 S – 50 units, manufactured September 14, 2022-October 12, 2023

Mercedes-Benz will contact you directly if you own one of these models to make an appointment for a technician to inspect and resolve the issue.

What’s the Issue?

The problem was related to the transmission wiring harness, particularly the electrical connector coupling, not being made according to specifications, states Mercedes-Benz. The following conditions were mentioned by the company:

  • Water may seep in through the connector terminals, leading to a short circuit over time.

  • Should this take place while the vehicle is parked, the short circuit could lead to overheating capable of igniting a fire.

There have, as yet, been no cases reported, but it is working proactively to prevent any potential thermal overload or safety hazards.

How Will Mercedes Repair the Problem?

Mercedes-Benz in India has mentioned that all affected vehicles will be repaired at authorized services, free of charge. A fix would likely entail inspection of the connector and replacement of any components found to be malfunctioning, and ensuring proper sealing against any ingress of water.

Affected vehicle customers should await official correspondence from Mercedes-Benz, or may be proactive and contact the nearest dealership to book an appointment for inspection.
