McLaren has introduced the Artura Spider, a convertible version of its hybrid supercar, boasting several performance upgrades also available in the coupe model. The Spider retains much of the coupe's design, with subtle modifications like thicker buttresses housing a roll cage for increased safety in rollovers. The rear deck now accommodates a folding hard-top with additional vents, while an optional carbon fibre roof with an electrochromic glass sunroof is available.
The Spider's design incorporates minor modifications while preserving the original coupe family design. The roll cage is housed in thicker functional buttresses, which improve safety, and the rear quarter glass is eliminated. To improve vision from the back, the flying buttresses now have big glass inserts.
In order to make room for the folding hard-top, the deck is reshaped in the back. We repositioned the heat vents to the back and added more vents compared to the coupe. At speeds of up to 50 kmph, the carbon fibre roof can be folded in just 11 seconds. According to McLaren, the Spider is the lightest in its class, despite being 62 kilogrammes heavier than the coupe (1559 kg).
