Maruti Wagon R Leads Sales in January 2025, Followed by Baleno and Creta

The Indian auto market kicked off 2025 with strong sales momentum. Maruti Wagon R secured the top spot, followed by the Baleno and Hyundai Creta. Tata, Hyundai, and Mahindra models also made it to the top 15, reflecting evolving customer preferences.

Wagon R, Baleno, and Creta Lead Car Sales in January 2025

The first month of 2025 brought exciting sales numbers in the Indian automobile market. Maruti Wagon R emerged as the best-selling car, overtaking other popular models with 24,078 units sold.

Maruti continued its dominance, with the Baleno securing the second position and Hyundai’s Creta grabbing third place, marking a 40% year-on-year (YoY) growth driven by its new electric variant.

While Maruti took most of the top spots, Tata, Hyundai, and Mahindra also had a strong presence in the top 15 best-selling cars of January 2025.

Here’s a closer look at how each of these models performed.

Top 3 Best-Selling Cars – Maruti and Hyundai Lead the Pack

The Maruti Wagon R claimed the top spot, registering a massive 36% YoY growth, with over 6,700 more units sold compared to December 2024. This reflects the continued demand for affordable, fuel-efficient hatchbacks.

The Baleno, Maruti’s premium hatchback, secured the second position with 19,965 units sold. It recorded a significant Month-On-Month (MoM) growth, doubling its sales compared to December 2024.

The Hyundai Creta, taking the third spot, saw a huge boost in sales, thanks to its new-gen model and the introduction of the Creta Electric. With 18,522 units sold, Hyundai recorded the highest YoY growth at 40%.

Swift, Punch, and Grand Vitara Follow Closely

The Maruti Swift, which jumped from 11th place in December to fourth place in January, recorded 17,081 unit sales, marking an 11% YoY growth.

The Tata Punch, despite a 10% YoY dip, managed 16,231 sales, while the Maruti Grand Vitara impressed with a 17% YoY growth, selling 15,784 units.

Mahindra Scorpio, Tata Nexon, and Maruti Dzire Stay Strong

The Mahindra Scorpio (both Scorpio N and Classic) secured the seventh spot, with 15,442 units sold, reflecting positive MoM and YoY growth.

Despite a 10% YoY drop, the Tata Nexon, including its ICE and EV variants, recorded 15,397 sales, holding the eighth position.

The Maruti Dzire saw a decline in both YoY and MoM sales but still made it to the top 10 with 15,383 units sold.

Fronx, Brezza, and Ertiga Complete the Top 15

The Maruti Fronx registered an impressive 41% YoY growth, with 15,192 units sold.

The Brezza and Ertiga both saw a decline in sales, with 14,747 and 14,248 units sold, respectively, but remained among the top-selling models.

Other popular models that made the list included the Maruti Alto (11,352 units), Maruti Eeco (11,250 units), and Hyundai Venue (11,106 units).

Conclusion

Maruti Suzuki continues to dominate the Indian auto market, with multiple models in the top 15. Hyundai and Tata maintained strong positions with the Creta and Punch, while Mahindra’s Scorpio performed well in the SUV segment.

As the year progresses, it will be interesting to see how upcoming launches and new electric models impact the sales rankings in the coming months.
