Maruti Suzuki To Launch First Electric Car By Year End Full Details Inside

Maruti Suzuki to Launch First Electric Car by Year-End: Full Details Inside

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch its first electric vehicle (EV) by the end of this financial year. This marks a significant milestone in the company’s commitment to eco-friendly technologies. The company is also focusing on a variety of green technologies. These include strong hybrid biogas, flex fuel, and CNG options. This diverse approach aims to provide budget-friendly solutions. These solutions reduce emissions and fuel consumption.

In its latest annual report, Chairman R C Bhargava emphasized the role of supportive government policies. These policies help reduce the sales of petrol and diesel vehicles. This, in turn, will help lower emissions. Bhargava believes that India’s unique resources and socio-economic conditions necessitate a multifaceted approach. This approach aims to effectively address environmental challenges.

As Maruti Suzuki progresses with its Maruti 3.0 initiative Bhargava highlighted the importance of technology development. The company is enhancing its engineering capabilities. It is encouraging its vendors to do the same to reduce import dependency. Alongside the upcoming EV, Maruti Suzuki is promoting strong hybrid technology. It is also focusing on CNG ethanol and biogas vehicles. Bhargava noted the potential of renewable biogas, which is carbon-negative and fully domestic. He mentioned the company’s ongoing efforts in testing biogas production.

While the Indian auto industry debates the benefits of hybrids Maruti Suzuki defends its varied approach against competitors who focus solely on battery electric vehicles (BEVs). Although BEVs receive lower GST rates and additional incentives, hybrids are subject to higher taxes which hampers their adoption.

Currently, Maruti Suzuki offers two strong hybrid models—the Grand Vitara SUV and the Invicto MPV. The company is set to introduce its first EV this year. It aims to launch six EV models by FY31, contingent on cost reductions and the expansion of local charging infrastructure

Despite the increasing popularity of SUVs Bhargava stressed the importance of affordable small cars to drive market growth. He also aimed to attract new buyers. Maruti Suzuki Managing Director Hisashi Takeuchi echoed this sentiment. He wants to make car ownership accessible to more Indians
