Maruti Suzuki Escudo: A New Contender in the Mid-Size SUV Segment

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch the Escudo, a new 5-seater mid-size SUV, this Diwali. Positioned between the Brezza and Grand Vitara, the Escudo aims to offer a spacious cabin, multiple powertrain options, and competitive pricing to rival popular models like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

Maruti Suzuki is set to introduce the Escudo, a new 5-seater mid-size SUV, during the upcoming Diwali festive season. Codenamed Y17, the Escudo is designed to fill the gap between the Brezza and Grand Vitara in Maruti's lineup, targeting competitors like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

Design and Platform

Built on the same Global-C platform as the Grand Vitara, the Escudo is expected to be slightly longer, offering more cabin and boot space. This design aims to provide a spacious and comfortable experience for passengers, making it a practical choice for families.

Powertrain Options

The Escudo is anticipated to come with multiple powertrain options:

  • 1.5-liter petrol engine: Delivers 101.65 hp and 139 Nm of torque.

  • CNG variant: Offers 86.79 hp.

  • Strong hybrid variant: Combining for a total output of 113.97 hp.

Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed automatic, and an e-CVT for the hybrid variant. Additionally, the Escudo is expected to offer both 2WD and 4WD (Suzuki AllGrip) configurations.

Market Positioning and Pricing

Positioned between the Brezza and Grand Vitara, the Escudo aims to attract customers looking for a mid-size SUV with a balance of features and affordability. While exact pricing details are yet to be announced, it's expected that the Escudo will be priced competitively to challenge its segment rivals.

Availability

The Escudo will be available through Maruti Suzuki's Arena dealerships, making it accessible to a wide range of customers across India.
