Maruti Suzuki is set to introduce the Escudo, a new 5-seater mid-size SUV, during the upcoming Diwali festive season. Codenamed Y17, the Escudo is designed to fill the gap between the Brezza and Grand Vitara in Maruti's lineup, targeting competitors like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
Design and Platform
Built on the same Global-C platform as the Grand Vitara, the Escudo is expected to be slightly longer, offering more cabin and boot space. This design aims to provide a spacious and comfortable experience for passengers, making it a practical choice for families.
Powertrain Options
The Escudo is anticipated to come with multiple powertrain options:
1.5-liter petrol engine: Delivers 101.65 hp and 139 Nm of torque.
CNG variant: Offers 86.79 hp.
Strong hybrid variant: Combining for a total output of 113.97 hp.
Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed automatic, and an e-CVT for the hybrid variant. Additionally, the Escudo is expected to offer both 2WD and 4WD (Suzuki AllGrip) configurations.
Market Positioning and Pricing
Positioned between the Brezza and Grand Vitara, the Escudo aims to attract customers looking for a mid-size SUV with a balance of features and affordability.
