Our Park+ Highlight of the Day includes details on the bookings and long waiting period the Maruti Suzuki Jimny has attracted.
On June 7, Maruti Suzuki released the Jimny's price range, starting at Rs. 12.74 lakh for the base model and up to Rs. 15.05 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-spec automatic model. Since the Jimny's debut at the Auto, reservations had been taken, and by launch, Maruti had received over 30,000 orders. Even though deliveries have already started, according to Maruti, demand for the off-road vehicle with a vintage design is growing quickly.
Before the rates were revealed, the Jimny was receiving about 92 reservations per day, according to Shashank Srivastava, executive director of Sales & Marketing, Maruti Suzuki India. Since its release, the SUV has averaged 151 reservations each day, which indicates that it is becoming more popular.
Srivastava said that the Jimny offers a higher value even at its beginning price of Rs 12.74 lakh than the Mahindra Thar 4X4, which begins at Rs 13.87 lakh. The Jimny features five doors as opposed to the Thar's current three, and 4WD is standard on all models. The Jimny also comes with six airbags as standard, while all Thar variations only receive two airbags.
A 1.5-liter K-series engine with Idle Start-Stop technology powers the Jimny. The engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox, both of which produce 103 BHP at 6,000 rpm and 134.2 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The Jimny has Suzuki's AllGrip Pro 4-wheel drive system with low-range transfer gear (4L mode) and a 3-link rigid axle suspension. Additionally, it allows for instantaneous conversion from 2H two-wheel drive to 4H four-wheel drive.
The Jimny now has a waiting period of around 30-35 weeks at most places due to a robust order book even before the price announcement. According to dealers, the entry-level Alpha model is the most popular choice for customers who wish to personalise their SUV to their preferences. The Jimny models with automatic gearboxes are also doing well, especially in places like Mumbai.
