Maruti Grand Vitara Sales Cross 2 Lakh Units In Less Than 2 Years

Maruti Grand Vitara Sales Cross 2 Lakh Units in Less Than 2 Years

Maruti Suzuki's Grand Vitara, launched on September 26, 2022, has achieved an impressive milestone by crossing the 2 lakh unit sales mark in just 22 months. By the end of June 2024, it had sold 199,550 units, with the remaining 450 units likely sold in early July 2024. This rapid sales achievement makes the Grand Vitara the fastest midsize SUV to reach this milestone, surpassing the Hyundai Creta's record of 25 months.

Key Sales Highlights

Grand Vitara’s Contribution to Maruti's UV Sales: The Grand Vitara accounts for 17% of Maruti’s UV sales and 19% of total Nexa sales from its launch to date.

Sales Figures:

  • FY2023: 51,315 units

  • FY2024: 121,169 units

  • FY2025 (Q1): 27,066 units

Market Impact: In its first full year (FY2024), the Grand Vitara was the second best-selling midsize SUV with 121,169 units sold, trailing only behind the Hyundai Creta.

Market Share and Competition

The Grand Vitara has played a significant role in increasing Maruti Suzuki’s market share. In the April-June 2024 quarter, Maruti Suzuki sold 163,130 UVs (SUVs and MPVs), capturing a 25% market share and surpassing competitors like Mahindra, Hyundai, and Tata. The Grand Vitara's sales accounted for 27,066 units during this period, reflecting its growing popularity.

Contribution to Nexa Sales

The Grand Vitara has been a significant contributor to Maruti Suzuki's premium Nexa channel. By the end of June 2024, Nexa had sold a total of 2,711,895 cars, with the Grand Vitara contributing 199,550 units, making up 7.35% of Nexa's total sales. Since FY2023, when the SUV was launched, the Grand Vitara has contributed 19% to Nexa’s sales.

CNG Variant and Exports

In January 2023, Maruti Suzuki introduced the Grand Vitara CNG, expanding its CNG portfolio to 14 models. From January to June 2024, Maruti Suzuki recorded retail sales of 159,031 units, marking a 34% increase from H1 2023. The Grand Vitara has been pivotal in maintaining Maruti Suzuki’s 66% share of the CNG PV market.

The first batch of Made-in-India Grand Vitara was exported to Latin America in January 2023, making it Maruti Suzuki's 17th export model. Key export models include the Dzire, Swift, S-Presso, Baleno, and Brezza.

Recalls and Quality Assurance

Since its launch, the Grand Vitara has been recalled three times for various inspections and replacements:

  • December 6, 2022: Inspection of the shoulder height adjuster assembly of the front row seat belts.

  • January 17, 2023: Inspection and replacement of the airbag controller.

  • January 24, 2023: Inspection of the rear seatbelt mounting brackets for 11,177 units manufactured between August 8 and November 15, 2022.

Despite these recalls, the Grand Vitara continues to demonstrate robust sales performance and market acceptance.

By achieving 2 lakh unit sales in less than two years, the Maruti Grand Vitara has solidified its position as a leading midsize SUV in the Indian automotive market, setting a new benchmark for speed and sales volume in its segment.
