Mahindra Set to Electrify Roads with XUV300 EV, Targeting Nexon EV Rivalry

In a groundbreaking revelation, our sources at Autocar Professional report that Mahindra is gearing up to launch the eagerly awaited electric variant of its XUV300 SUV, set to hit the market by June 2024. Positioned as a formidable competitor to the Tata Nexon EV, the XUV300 EV will accompany a heavily updated version of its gasoline counterpart, featuring both aesthetic enhancements and a cutting-edge EV powertrain.

Mahindra's move into the electric SUV arena follows the lukewarm reception of the XUV400 EV, currently competing with the Tata Nexon EV. With the introduction of the XUV300 EV, Mahindra aims to secure a significant share of the thriving mass-market EV SUV segment.

The XUV300 EV is anticipated to share design updates with the facelifted standard model, promising a fresh and contemporary appearance. Notable features include a distinctive drop-down LED daytime running lamp, a revamped bumper and headlamp assembly, and an imposing two-part grille with an enlarged central air intake. The rear of the vehicle will showcase a redesigned tailgate adorned with a full-width LED light bar, C-shaped tail lamps, and a repositioned registration plate on the bumper.

Inside, the XUV300 EV will maintain its sleek and modern interior, with subtle alterations such as a larger infotainment screen, repositioned AC vents, and minor adjustments to the switchgear and centre console. While the cargo space will align with the under-4m XUV300 facelift, offering approximately 257 litres, it falls short of the Nexon EV's 350-litre capacity.

Under the hood, the XUV300 EV will boast a 35kWh battery, slightly smaller than its predecessor, the XUV400 EV, which features a 40kWh battery. Despite the reduced battery size, Mahindra assures a competitive and efficient electric powertrain for the XUV300 EV.

The anticipated pricing for the XUV300 EV is expected to range between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it as an attractive option priced approximately Rs 2 lakh lower than the larger XUV400 EV. Official confirmation and details are expected to emerge by June next year, following the launch of the XUV300 facelift with conventional petrol and diesel engines, likely in February 2024. Mahindra remains tight-lipped about these developments, providing no official comment on the speculation surrounding the XUV300 EV.
