According to Mahindra's head of automotive product development, the future five-door Thar will share a platform with the Scorpio N, which is anticipated to hit the market by 2023.
The Mahindra Thar is more of a family vehicle with five doors and the ability to fit more passengers than its predecessors comfortably. The 5-door Thar is anticipated to be 22% longer than the 3-door variation, whose present length is 3,985mm and wheelbase is around 2,450mm. It will also have a longer wheelbase than the current version sold on the market.
The five-door Thar should appear to be a more comprehensive product than just a three-door variant with additional doors. Because of the wider track, enhanced suspension, and higher stiffness, it will feel more stable on the road than the current Thar. It will include an off-road gearbox, 18-inch alloy wheels, exposed door hinges, and a split tailgate design, just like the 3-door Thar. Additional amenities include a second-row bench seat, rear AC vents, an armrest, and charging ports.
Mahindra is unlikely to include any new powertrains in the upcoming five-door Thar. It is anticipated that the same 2.2-litre diesel and 2-liter turbo-petrol engines would be available as on the standard Thar.
In terms of pricing, a rise is inevitable. The Mahindra Thar is anticipated to cost about Rs 1 to 2 lakh more than the existing 3-door model.
