Kia Carens Clavis EV coming to market, starting at 17.99 lakh

With prices starting at 17.99 lakh and going up to 24.49 lakh, the Carens Clavis EV is Kia Motors' first internationally bound electric car officially built in India. It is economical to drive with two battery choices, a range of 490km and a three-row interior. Bookings will begin on July 22 and will be delivered a short time later

kia carens clavis ev launch platform

Kia India has now formally introduced its first made-in-India EV, the Carens Clavis EV, in the mass-market EV world.

At a price range starting at 17.99 lakh for the entry-level variant and going all the way up to 24.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the Clavis EV will offer an affordable but practical three-row electric architecture to Indian customers, which has remained unexplored so far.

Acceptance of the bookings will start on July 22, with the delivery of the cars that will start shortly after.

Variants and Pricing

Kia offers the Carens Clavis EV in four trims across two battery options:

  • HTK Plus (42kWh) – ₹17.99 lakh

  • HTX (42kWh) – ₹20.49 lakh

  • HTX ER (51.4kWh) – ₹22.49 lakh

  • HTX+ ER (51.4kWh) – ₹24.49 lakh

The 42kWh and the 51.4kWh models power out 133bhp and 169bhp respectively, both equipped with front-mounted electricity motors. This is claimed to have a maximum range of 490km under fully charged conditions.

Outside and some Inside Work

Visually, the EV is almost similar to its ICE equivalent except that there are slight modifications. These are a LED light bar at the front, new alloy wheels, front bumper revised, and charging port is moved.

The cabin keeps its three-row configuration as well, but it is now missing the six-seater configuration, which is replaced by a bench middle row.

It also has a new centre console, a column-mounted gear shifter, and extra storage inside the vehicle. Smart packaging and redesign of the interior makes it more spacious and modern.

Features and Tech

The Clavis EV is generously equipped, boasting:

  • ADAS functions

  • Panoramic sunroof

  • Bose sound system

  • 10.25-inch touchscreen

  • 64-colour ambient lighting

  • Air purifier

  • Powered driver seat

  • Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) charging tech

Competition and Positioning

Today, there are no direct competitors of the Clavis EV price range since the handmade is the only three-row EV with a price that is less than the 25 lakh mark. In space and technology comparison, BYD eMax7 is quite expensive making Kia have a special advantage.

By launching it, Kia wants to prove that it is a serious participant in India's electric future, and more electric cars are to appear next year.
