A new Tata CNG SUV will be launched soon with full details

The company hopes to have its CNG vehicles constitute almost 25 percent of its overall passenger vehicle sales by the decade's end (FY30). Currently, the automaker retails five CNG variants such as Tiago iCNG, Tigor iCNG, Altroz iCNG, Punch iCNG, and Nexon iCNG

Tata Motors is slowly growing its CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) vehicle product range to meet increasing market demand. The company seeks its CNG cars to constitute almost 25 percent of its overall passenger car sales by the end of the decade (FY30).

Presently, the automaker retails five CNG models comprising Tiago iCNG, Tigor iCNG, Altroz iCNG, Punch iCNG and Nexon iCNG. The Tata Curvv CNG will be entering the fray soon, as one of its heavily camouflaged test mules was recently spotted on camera.

Dual-Cylinder tech

The Tata Curvv CNG will pack the company's i-CNG dual-cylinder technology. The vehicle will use two 30-litre CNG cylinders stowed under the boot floor. This layout spares luggage space, which would otherwise be compromised in CNG vehicles.

According to Tata, its dual-cylinder technology also includes a leak detection system, thermal incident protection, and a micro-switch for safe fueling.

Power and Mileage

The iCNG kit will be available with the 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine, which will deliver a maximum power of 120 bhp and 170 Nm of torque. The power and torque output of the CNG variant will be marginally lower than its standard petrol variant. But it will provide good on fuel efficiency.

The automaker may provide the Tata Curvv CNG with both manual and automatic gearbox options. It will be the country's first coupe SUV to have a CNG fuel option.

Expected Launch and prices

The CNG kit can be introduced on the top trims of the Curvv in the vicinity of this year's festive season. Upon launch, it will compete with the Maruti Grand Vitara CNG. When it comes to price, the Tata Curvv CNG is anticipated to be at least Rs 1 lakh expensive than its non-CNG petrol variant. Today, the coupe SUV family comes in 34 flavors, ranging from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 19.20 lakh (all, ex-showroom).

Conclusion

The new Tata Curvv CNG is a strong move in the direction of Tata Motors' vision for a cleaner and more varied fuel offer. With its cutting-edge dual-cylinder iCNG technology, optimized powertrain, and coupe SUV look, the Curvv CNG has the potential to be a market winner. Targeted at environment-friendly consumers who wouldn't like to compromise on performance and utility, this SUV has the potential to become the new benchmark for CNG vehicles. With Tata Motors continuing to add more CNG offerings to its stable, the Curvv CNG is emerging as a much-awaited and strategic addition—one to look out for this festive season.
