5 Cool Compact SUVs Going Hybrid & Electric in India

Five popular compact SUVs from Mahindra, Hyundai, Kia, Renault, and Maruti Suzuki are getting eco-friendly hybrid and electric upgrades, hitting the roads between 2025 and 2029.

The Greener future of India is here with the launch of the five cool compact SUVs that are planned to be hybrid and Electric. Models from brands like Mahindra, Hyundai, Kia, Renault, and Maruti Suzuki will mark the beginning of this transformation.

Mahindra XUV 3XO: Electric & Hybrid Power

Mahindra’s XUV 3XO is leading the charge! The electric version (XUV 3XO EV) is expected to drop in mid-2025 with a 35kWh battery pack, perfect for zipping around town. It’ll sport some slick EV-specific tweaks inside and out.

In 2026, the XUV 3XO Hybrid (codenamed S226) will roll out, pairing a 1.2L turbo petrol engine with a strong hybrid system. Mahindra’s betting big on hybrids, and this one’s set to be a game-changer.

Hyundai Venue EV: Affordable & Electric

Hyundai’s got big plans for electric cars in India, targeting budget-friendly, high-volume segments. The Venue EV is one of three mass-market EVs in the works, alongside the Inster EV and Grand i10 Nios EV. Expect the Venue EV to hit showrooms by 2027, bringing affordable electric vibes to the streets.

Kia Syros EV: Stylish & Sustainable

Kia’s jumping into the electric SUV game with the Syros EV, slated for early 2026. Built at Kia’s Anantapur plant, this compact electric SUV will go head-to-head with the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV. With an estimated range of 450km, it’s ready to turn heads with EV-specific design tweaks.

Renault Kiger EV: Budget-Friendly Electric

Renault’s gearing up for a big push in India with five new models, including the Kiger EV. Set to launch in early 2027, this compact EV will be built on a new dedicated electric platform (Project RJ2K5). Priced under ₹15 lakhs, it’s aimed at making electric driving accessible to more people.

Maruti Brezza Hybrid: Fuel-Sipping Star

Maruti Suzuki is cooking up its own strong hybrid tech for models like the Fronx, Swift, Baleno, and Brezza. The Brezza Hybrid is expected to arrive in 2029, timed with a major model refresh. Paired with Maruti’s Z-Series petrol engine, it’s projected to deliver an impressive 35 kmpl mileage, making it a fuel-sipping champ.
