Safety Features of Tata Nexon EV
BNCAP reviewed Tata Nexon EV's range-topping Empowered+ LR version, which includes six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ISOFIX child seat anchor points, 3-point seatbelts with reminders for all occupants, a 360-degree camera, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
Tata Nexon EV 45 kWh adult occupant protection
For the frontal offset deformable barrier test of the Nexon EV 45kWh, protection of the driver's head, neck, pelvis, thighs, and feet was 'good', whereas the chest and tibia were 'adequate'. The co-driver's head, neck, chest, pelvis, thighs and left tibia were 'good', but right tibia protection was 'adequate'.
In the side pole impact test, every segment of the driver was graded 'good', a fact that was also applicable in the side movable deformable barrier test. In the latter, though, the chest protection was graded 'adequate'.
Tata Nexon EV child occupant protection
The Nexon EV 45 kWh accumulated 23.95 out of 24 in the dynamic test with child restraint systems engaged. Side protection for the 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummy achieved a score of a complete 4 out of 4 in the dynamic assessment. Frontal protection for the 18-month-old dummy equaled 7.95 out of 8, and the 3-year-old managed full marks once again – 8 out of 8.
Tata Nexon EV BNCAP score vs Rivals
The primary competitor of the Nexon EV is the Mahindra XUV400, which performed better in AOP ratings (30.38 vs 29.86) but lagged behind the Tata e-SUV in COP (43 vs 44.95). Incidentally, all of Tata's electric SUVs – the Nexon EV, Punch EV, Curvv EV – and their complete variant line-ups are now 5-star-rated in BNCAP crash tests.
Conclusion
The extension of the 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating to Tata Nexon EV 45 kWh models strengthens Tata Motors' focus on passenger protection across all electric vehicle models. With sector-leading scores in both adult and child occupant safety, Nexon EV 45 kWh finds its 30 kWh sibling leading the way in establishing a new safety benchmark in the Indian EV market. Coupled with a stunning array of safety features and solid crash test ratings, the Nexon EV is one of the safest electric SUVs on the market today. This feat not only speaks volumes about Tata's engineering prowess but also reinforces consumer trust in safe, sustainable mobility options.
