Citroen C3 CNG Launched to Rival Tata Punch iCNG – Prices Start at Rs 7.16 Lakh

The Citroen C3 now offers a CNG fuel option with a factory-fitted kit supplied by Lovato Gas India, making it a direct rival of the Tata Punch iCNG. With prices starting just over Rs 7 lakh, the C3 CNG has a fuel efficiency of 28.1km/kg and is available on four variants and has a claimed range of approximately 200 km from CNG.

Citroen India has launched the eagerly awaited CNG version of its C3 hatchback to take on the Tata Punch iCNG. Like the Punch iCNG, the C3 CNG will come with a factory-fitted CNG kit supplied from Lovato Gas India. CNG can be retrofitted on all four variants of the C3—Live, Feel, Feel (O) and Shine—from any Citroen dealer across India.

The CNG variants of the C3 cost about Rs 93,000 more than their petrol versions, priced from Rs 7.16 lakh for the base Live variant to Rs 9.09 lakh for the top-end Shine (all prices ex-showroom). This means the Citroen C3 CNG variants are on the cheaper side as far as the hatchback CNG segment goes.

Price Comparison: Citroen C3 CNG vs Tata Punch iCNG

The Tata Punch iCNG is priced between Rs 7.30 lakh and Rs 10.17 lakh (ex-showroom), making the Citroen C3 CNG a cost-effective rival. Here’s a quick price comparison:

VariantCitroen C3 CNGTata Punch iCNG
BaseRs 7.16 lakhRs 7.30 lakh (Pure)
MidRs 7.41 lakh (Feel)Rs 8.12 lakh (Adventure)
HighRs 8.45 lakh (Feel O)Rs 8.47 lakh (Adventure Plus)
TopRs 9.09 lakh (Shine)Rs 10.17 lakh (Accomplished Plus S Camo)

Specs, Mileage and Features

The C3 CNG comes with a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engine paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. The CNG power figures are not yet revealed, but the petrol model has 82 bhp and 115 Nm of torque. Full details of the CNG model have not yet been revealed, although it has a 55-litre cylinder. The C3 CNG has an ARAI mileage of 28.1 km/kg, with a distance range of 170 - 200 km.

The rear suspension has been developed to ensure ride comfort is unaffected, considering the added weight of a CNG setup.

With competitive pricing, practical mileage, and value-based features, Citroen C3 CNG promises to be a tough competitor in India's rapidly expanding CNG car market.
