Audi A5 e-Hybrid Revealed: 68-Mile Range, Up to 362 HP

Audi’s new A5 e-hybrid plug-in sedan boasts impressive power, a 68-mile electric range, and a sleek design. Discover its features and whether it’s coming to America.

Audi, one of the most desirable brands in the automobile industry, is launching an A5 plug-in hybrid for the European market, although the status of the American market is a bit unclear!

This car was revealed last summer and is here to properly replace the aging A4. Meanwhile, the new Audi A5 has changed from a coupe to a fastback sedan. Audi claims that the latest generation of high-voltage batteries has a capacity increase of about 45%. Let’s dive into more details.

Power and Performance: Hybrid Muscle

The A5 e-hybrid is here to turn the heads of car fans with the following power options:

  • 295 horsepower: This is perfect for those who want a smooth mix of efficiency and pep.

  • 362 horsepower: Are you a thrill-seeker? Well, this one hits 0 to 62 mph in just 5.1 seconds.

Both versions team up a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine featuring an electric motor tucked into a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The results of this make a lasting impression, for it features Up to 368 pound-feet of torque in the top model and a top speed capped at 155 mph.

Electric Range and Charging: Go Far, Charge Fast

What’s a plug-in hybrid without some electric bragging rights?

The A5 e-hybrid delivers with a 20.7 kWh battery that powers it up to 68 miles on a single charge (per Europe’s WLTP cycle). For U.S. folks, that might drop to around 57 miles under EPA testing.

Charging’s a breeze, too. With an 11 kW AC charger, you’re back to full juice in just 2.5 hours. That’s a big leap from Audi’s older PHEVs, which topped out at 7.4 kW.

Whether you’re plugged in at home or at a public station, this sedan’s ready to roll without keeping you waiting.

Innovative Features: Smart and Savvy

Audi didn’t stop at power and range—they loaded the A5 e-hybrid with tech that makes driving a blast:

  • Regenerative Braking: Use the steering wheel paddles to tweak how much energy you claw back when slowing down. Or let the car figure it out using navigation and traffic data—pretty smart, right?

  • Driving Modes: Flip between “EV” mode for pure electric vibes (up to 87 mph) or “hybrid” mode to mix it up. You can even tell it how much battery to save for later.

  • New “e-hybrid” Badge: This isn’t an “e-tron” full EV—it’s a plug-in hybrid with its own identity, keeping things clear in Audi’s lineup.

These goodies make the A5 e-hybrid feel like a car that’s thinking one step ahead of you.

Design and Availability: Sleek Meets Uncertainty

The A5 e-hybrid rocks the same sharp, fastback style as the standard A5 sedan, a glow-up from the outgoing A4. In Europe, there’s even a wagon version for extra practicality—though don’t hold your breath for that one in the U.S.

Pricing starts at about $67,000 in Germany, with the 362 hp model jumping to $76,000. Deliveries kick off in April across Europe, but the U.S. story is still a cliffhanger. The regular A5 won’t land stateside until mid-2025, so the hybrid might not show up until 2026—if at all. Audi’s keeping us guessing, but we’re crossing our fingers.

Overall, The Audi A5 e-hybrid is shaping up to be a winner: powerful, efficient, and packed with tech that’s as cool as it is useful. It’s a hybrid that doesn’t just save gas—it makes driving fun. Europe’s getting it soon, but U.S. fans might need patience—or a good petition. For anyone who loves a green ride without being tame, this A5 could be the sweet spot. Stay tuned—Audi might just surprise us yet.
