The insurance sector has thrived due to this legal mandate, with a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 8% between FY 2022-'28. However, it is common to misplace or lose these important documents, and in such cases, you would need a duplicate one, especially if you have encountered an accident. This blog will explain how to find your car insurance policy details online.
Methods to Check Policy Details Online
In the digital age, almost any action can be performed online, including checking car insurance details. There are four ways to check your car insurance policy details online:
1. Using the Insurer's Official Website
Follow these steps to check policy details on the insurer's website:
Go to the relevant page on the official website of the insurer
Enter all relevant personal and vehicle details as required
Click on 'Submit'
Your current car insurance details will be revealed
2. Using the IIB Portal
The Insurance Information Bureau (IIB) portal operates under the IRDAI as an authentic data repository.
You need to have your RC book handy before starting the process. Using a single mobile number and email id, you can conduct an IIB search a maximum of three times.
Ensure that your vehicle has been insured on or after April 1, 2010. The IIB update requires time, so it may be unfruitful for newly registered vehicles.
Follow these steps to check policy details on the IIB portal:
Open the IIB portal and navigate to "Quick links" and click on V-Seva
Enter your name, address, contact details, vehicle's registration number, date and venue of the accident (if applicable)
Click the "submit" tab
If all the information is correct, it will reveal the necessary insurance details
3. Using the Vahan e-Services
Vahan e-Services is a special government web portal that serves as the national vehicle registry centre. Any regulator or layman can access it to retrieve any information regarding a particular vehicle that has been authentically registered.
Follow these steps to check policy details on the Vahan e-services web portal:
Visit the official webpage of Vahan
Choose and click 'Know your vehicle details" from the top
Enter your vehicle's registration number
Click on "Search vehicle"
It will reveal all relevant details connected to that car, along with the insurance details.
4. Using the RTO Website
If you purchase a new car, you need to get it legally registered under your designated RTO. They retain every piece of information registered under their jurisdiction, and you can use their website to know your car insurance policy details.
Follow these steps to check policy details on the RTO website:
Visit the official website of your designated RTO
Select "Online services for citizens"
Choose "vehicle-related online services"
Click on the "Vahan Citizen Services" link
Select the relevant RTO details
Visit the "status' tab from the menu and click "Know your vehicle details"
Enter and submit the captcha code along with other necessary details
It will reveal the concerned vehicle details.
