  • Driving without a helmet (two-wheeler)- Penalty: Rs. 500

  • Driving without a seat-belt (four-wheeler)- Penalty: Rs. 500

  • Over-loading a two-wheeler- Penalty: Rs. 100

  • Driving on the wrong side of the road- Penalty:

  • Three-wheeler: Rs. 1,500

  • Light Motor Vehicle: Rs. 3,000

  • Heavy Vehicle: Rs. 5,000

  • Driving unregistered vehicles- Penalty:

  • Two-wheeler: Rs. 1,000

  • Three-wheeler: Rs. 2,000

  • Four-wheeler: Rs. 3,000

  • Heavy Vehicle: Rs. 5,000

  • Driving without a valid driving license

    • Penalty:

  • Two-wheeler: Rs. 2,000

  • Three/Four-wheeler: Rs. 3,000

  • Blocking passage of emergency vehicles- Penalty: Rs. 1,000

  • Violating pollution standards- Penalty:

  • Two-wheelers: Rs. 1,000

  • Other vehicles: Rs. 3,000

  • Overspeeding- Penalty:

  • Two-wheeler: Rs. 1,500

  • Light Motor Vehicle: Rs. 2,000

  • Heavy Motor Vehicle: Rs. 4,000

  • Drunk driving- Penalty:

  • First offence: Rs. 10,000 and/or 6 months imprisonment

  • Subsequent offence: Rs. 15,000 and/or 2 years imprisonment

What happens if the traffic challan is not paid in Goa?

If you fail to pay your traffic challan within 60 days of issuance in Goa, the traffic department will forward your challan to the district court.

At the court's discretion, a higher fine than the original amount may be levied, and you may face imprisonment for up to 3 months or both. Therefore, it's crucial to promptly settle your challans to avoid such consequences.

Telangana Traffic Challan Penalties

The Telangana Traffic Police issue challans for various traffic offences, and failure to pay the fines can lead to further consequences. Here is a list of some major offences and their corresponding penalties in Telangana:

  • Carrying extra passengers in the front seat Fine: Rs 1000

  • Not wearing a helmet Fine: Rs 1000

  • Driving an uninsured vehicle Fine: Rs 2000

  • Carrying passengers in goods vehicle Fine: Rs 2000

  • Wrong-side driving Fine: Rs 2000

  • Driving using a cell phone/jumping signal/excess load projection/lane crossing (Zig-zag) Fine: Rs 2000

  • Over-speeding/Wrong route Fine: Rs 2000

  • Driving drunk (2-wheeler) Fine: Rs 3000

  • Driving drunk (4-wheeler) Fine: Rs 4000

  • Driving drunk (public vehicle) Fine: Rs 5000

  • Racing while driving Fine: Rs 3000

  • Causing pollution while driving/parking endangering the safety of commuters (only on highways) Fine: Rs 2000

Consequences of Not Paying Traffic Challans

  • Home Visit: A traffic police officer may visit your registered home address to collect the penalty amount.

  • Court Hearing: If the traffic police officer is unable to collect the challan during a home visit, a court date is scheduled for the case.

  • License Suspension: Failure to appear in the court hearing can result in the suspension of your driving license.

Point System

To minimize the number of traffic offences in Telangana, the state government has implemented a special point system.

If a driver accumulates 12 or more points within a period of 2 years, their driving license will be suspended for a minimum of 1 year. Repeat offenders can face license suspension for up to 2 years.
