Renault Discontinue Production Of The Kwid 800cc In India

Renault Ends Production Of The Kwid 800cc In India

Renault has officially ceased production of the 800cc variant of its popular model, the Kwid, in India. The decision aligns with the company's strategy to streamline its product lineup and focus on newer offerings. The Kwid has been a key player in the entry-level hatchback segment, known for its affordability and features. Renault aims to meet changing market demands and enhance its portfolio with more contemporary models, signaling a shift in its product strategy.

Renault has stopped selling the 800cc Kwid in the Indian market due to new RDE or BS6 phase 2 emission requirements. This choice was taken because the corporation needed help to upgrade the engine to comply with the new standards, which would have increased costs and decreased demand. Kwid was one of the French automaker's most reasonably priced models, contributing to the brand's increased popularity among Indian consumers.

Only the 1.0-litre version of the Kwid, which comes in five variations, is still for sale on Renault's official website. The three-cylinder, normally aspirated 0.8-litre model, available in RXL and RXL(O) variants, produced 52 Bhp and 72 Nm of maximum torque. It was connected to a 5-speed manual transmission.

The 999cc, three-cylinder, normally aspirated petrol engine in the Renault Kwid's 1.0-litre variant can produce 67 Bhp and 91 Nm of maximum torque. Both a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox are available. Along with Renault, Maruti and Skoda have also discontinued their respective models, the Octavia and Superb. Maruti also terminated its entry-level hatchback Alto 800. Honda has also removed the Jazz, Honda City of the fourth generation, and WR-V from the Indian market.

Vehicles must have an onboard self-diagnostic system that continuously checks actual driving pollution levels to comply with new emission requirements. Renault is developing the next-generation Duster SUV, which is significantly influenced by the Bigster concept and built on Renault-Nissan's new CMF-B platform. Although the SUV has lately been observed undergoing testing in Spain, it is still being determined whether it will be sold under the Renault or Dacia brands.

Buyers found the Duster to be a popular SUV, and the company may have similar success with the Duster's successor. Manufacturers must update semiconductors to monitor engine characteristics and fuel injectors to regulate fuel use and comply with the RDE.
